Has anyone seen the movie "The Spiderwick Chronicles"? My 4 yr old

It's pretty good movie and I enjoyed watching. It's a combination of a spooky sci-fi, fantasy, drama and adventure with spooky goblins and other nasty looking creatures. It is similar to Harry Potter movies. If your kid can handle scarier parts he/she may enjoy the escape! Cheers!

I have not seen it. I tried to get my son to go see it yesterday, but he wanted to see Superhero Movie instead. It looks good and I want to see it. I am not sure about how a 4 year old would like it.

I always check pluggedinonline.com for movie reviews. It is from a Christian perspective, so that may or not 'work' for you, however I have found they are VERY good at simply stating the facts and leaving to YOU to decide if it is acceptable to YOU or not. So...in the violence, profanity, sexual content areas...it may still be of value to you.

My husband took our 7 yr old, and I have asked him if he thought it appropriate for a 4 yr old. I will let you know what he says (I emailed him at work). I haven't seen it myself.

yep, ive seen this one already. its an entertaining movie since its a fantasy for kids. i love how they build up the fantasy characters and lots of mythical creatures too. its just a pity thats its not really of a great concept. but all in all, i still love the style and the genre.

I have seen the ads for this movie. I think it is probably similar to Bridge to Tarabithia in filming style and the level of violence. My guess, however, is that the creatures in this movie are "real" from the perspective of the story, while the events in "Bridge to Tarabitha" are magical seeming and leave you half way wondering if anything real is happening of if this is all in the imagination of the kids.

I think a friend of mine might know a few websites which help review films for children-appropriateness. I find those sites likely to be overly burdened with oppressive Christianity. You might disagree. However, I would not have banned Harry Potter or the Golden Compass, and these were lambasted by various agents feigning to have a child's best interest at heart.

If the child is prone to be scared of monsters: then no it is not. It has a loud, mean orge and creatures get limbs chopped off. My full review is linked below:
