Kerry Wood a closer? |
| |
| I know this isn't new but I still can't get over the fact that the Cubs have Wood closing. If memory serves, it always took him an inning or two to find his zone. Maybe my memory is not remembering correctly, after all he was injured almost as much as he played. Don't get me wrong, I love Wood but this just doesn't seem like a good fit to me. What do you think? | | | | | |

| | When he was a starter he needed to keep some resreve so that he could go seven innings. Coming in in the eighth inning he won't have to hold back and I think his abilities as a closer will exceed his abilities he had as a starter. If he knows he will only face six outs, he can give it his all without fear of tiring too early. You just might be surprised. Anyways its just the Cubbies... hehehe | | | | | | |

| | JUST THE CUBBIES?!?! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your favorite couch!!!! LOL! Just kidding. I hope your right about that. I also hope that tonight's performance is not an indication of what we are going to see the rest of the season. | | | |

| | I suppose I had that coming. hehehe I bleed purple. You watch that Peterson this year, he will break that record. If my Vikings could only land a quarterback. I'll bet after signing Grossman for another year, Bears fans are saying the same thing hehehe You are the first MyLot member to put my username together with my dislike of The Frozen Tundra Of Lambeau Field and the cheeseheaded nuts that sit there. Well done. | | | |

| | Having been a Bear fan my entire life, I can spot a Packer-hater. Or a Packer-lover for that matter. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I hope you're tight about Wood, 'friend'. | | | |

| | I'm so glad that I stumbled across this discussion, as I have always wondered what was behind the user ID 'cheesehater'. I've actually asked myself: "Who hates cheese enough to use is as an ID?". Now I know. Thanks Guardian! Oh, and not to worry, Cheesehater -- your secret is safe with me! | | | |

| | I think only time will tell on that one. Wood does have an impressive history in some ways, and certainly hits better than some pitchers as well, don't you think? Three injuries is a lot though and he sure has missed a lot of time from his job. Will he earn that $4.2 million in 2008? Anybody's guess... | | | | | | |

| | I loved Wood when he was healthy. He was a strong hitter and a great defensive player. It was almost like having a shortstop on the mound. I've seen him get the RBIs needed to put a win in his column as well as hit HRs. I am hoping for the best. $4.2 million, geez, you have to win a lot of games to earn that much. I hope he does. | | | |

| | well his history doesnt entitle him to be a closer, he could do 2 inning relief and then have marmol as the closer... | | | |

| | sdkluber, Welcome to myLot and sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I wasn't notified that you had do so. Anyway I agree. He really has to prove himself. I would like to think this is a good fit for him and perhaps this will help him stay healthy longer. But only time will tell. So far he has been doing better than I expected him to. | | | |

| | Hello Guardian, I'm only chiming in here to admit that little would demonstrate utter ignorance better than me getting into a discussion about Pro Baseball. Geesh, I fell asleep at a Yankees game once -- yawn. Sorry y'all, I don't mean to offend. You know how it is, "Different strokes for different folks". Now football, that's a whole different animal. But, Baseball -- geesh, if it involves more than playing on the local 'mushball' league, then I'm so out of my element, that I'll just spare you all of my idiocy. | | | | | | |

| | Hello Guardian, Nope! I was snoozing up a storm! I was flanked by trusted friends on both sides, though my one friend was also suffering from a serious case of 'heavy eyelids'. I've been to several pro football games, and would have never been able to catch a cat-nap, but baseball just doesn't do it for me. Since you're a Cubs fan, are you familiar with Mushball? Chicago is the home of the game, so I'm thinking that you may have played it before. | | | |

| | Man that is ringing some bells but I can't put my finger on it. Is it a game played in a racquetball court with dodge balls? | | | |

| | Hello Guardian, Nope, no racquetball courts. It parallels softball, but is played using a ball that is about a third again as large as a softball. And, the ball is much softer -- hence the name 'mushball'. Teams are usually coed, it's played on a softball field, with only the very occassional home-run, and it's a real hoot! I'm not sure how it developed in the Chicago area, though the Windy City is definitely the home of the game. I played on a city mushball league, here in NM, for years! What a blast! | | | |

| | Seeing how Wood is doing good in this, leave him there until he gets hurt. When that happens, put Marmol in. Side note on Wood, after a game outside the players lot, he was signing baseballs, I was like "STAY OFF THE DL!!" He's like, "Always got to be someone in every crowd that says that." | | | | | | |
