woman bit a pitbull on the nose to save her dog |
| |
| A 'stray' pitbull jumped a fence and attacked a woman's labrador retriever, the woman after trying to get this dog off her dog turned animal instinct and bit the dog. http://www.startribune.com/local/17247504.html I feel for the woman and her dog because she didn't want to loose her dog, and did what she could to protect her pet, her friend, and now the dog is emotionally scarred....scared to go for walks, > The pit bull was quarantined Wednesday by Minneapolis Animal Control after Rice's doctor told her of a possible rabies threat. She's unhappy the pit bull, named Frances, wasn't immediately corralled by animal control officers, who told her animals that attack other animals generally are not taken away.< So it takes a rabies scare to get a stray animal that attacks other animals quarantined? I'm sorry, if an animal like that attacks and it should be carted away immediately, I feel for the woman, who no potentially has to go through a series of rabies shots. A neighbor had picked the dog up off the streets and was waiting for a no kill shelter to come get the animal but she doesn't want to take responsibility for what the pitbull did. 1) should the lady who was caring for the stray accept responsibilty for the actions of a stray that she took in b) should the dog have been coralled right away after it attacked another? c) regardless of the results of rabies test should the pit bull be put down? What are your opinions. Please be nice as there are animal lovers and probably non animal lovers on this board....respect each and every opinion given agree or disagree. Mooch | | | | | |

| | Thats funny, my fiance will bite back a dog if it bites him, but if its b/c they are playing and he bites to hard he would bite back. I bet he really would bite if a dog was attacking him or something around him. LOL at least the dog is still alive, and it will grow out of teh scars hopefully. | | | | | | |

| | More power to that poor woman and I cannot for the life of me see why the animal control officers did not pick that vicious animal up at once. the lady who was caring for the pitbull should be held accountable for the pit bull attacking the other lady's dog and her also ultimately. what a mess!! | | | | | | |

| | I do not agree with putting down the dog for NOT having rabies. I do believe the dog should have been on a chain or in a fence where it could not harm anyone or their animals. I don't like the idea that so many pit bulls are being put down when they are not mean if they are raised with love... when outside they need to be chained or fenced in. No dog should run the neighborhood loose. | | | | | | |

| | I don't know if I could have done that or not. I would be too afraid that the pit bulls would attack and bite me also. I would get a broom or something and smack at the dog to try and get it off of my dog. I would be so scared to lose my dog but I really wouldn't want to hurt the other dog either but it would have to get off of my dog or face the consequences. | | | | | | |

| | How awful that they were attacked in their own garden by a vicious dog! I don't think it is Animal Control she should be so angry with - rather the owners who let the animal turn into a stray in the first place! She did a very brave thing - I don't know if I could have done this! xx | | | | | | |

| | Wow! I'm at loss for words here, Mooch. I'm all for pitbulls having a chance in this world but yet, the Lab was attacked by the stray dog. Here it's law that if you feed a stray, it automatically becomes your responsibility. Also, whenever a dog attacks someone or another animal, they are quaranttined for a few weeks to see if the attacker shows signs of rabies. Gonna leave it at that. | | | | | | |

| | I read this today at work, I live close to where is accured. I think the dog should of been taken right away. We take people to jail if they attack another person, so why would we not take a dog. I think we are lucky it did not attack a child. I suppose the lady did what she felt she had to, I am not sure I would of bit it. What if it turned on her, with her face all in it's. I think she was lucky. Very odd thing to happen thats for sure. | | | | | | |

| | That pitbull would have been shocked when the lady bit it's nose. I really hope she does not need Rabies shots. I hear they are pretty bad. The dog if it has Rabies will no doubt be destroyed. | | | | | | |

| | I probably would bite another dog to save mine if I had too! My pets are my family. This is a pretty difficult situation to answer the questions you ask. I want you too know I had to really think about them before I answered, and I hope none of my answers make anyone upset with me. 1) No, I don't think the woman who took in the pitbull should be charged. It is not her pet and she was just doing what she thought was good for the animal. She can't be expected to know how this dog would act. 2) I think when an animal attacks someones pet they should defeniatly be taken in. Animals shouldn't be allowed to run wild whether or not they attack other things, but when they do attack others, then they defeniatly should be collected. 3) If the pitbull doesn't have rabies I don't think it should be euthanized right away. I think that someone should make sure that this animal is a real threat. If it is possible the dog can be saved and adopted, then I think it should get that chance. | | | | | | |
