Rebecca - do you prefer the book or film? | | I first remember watching the film years and years ago one Sunday afternoon when I was about 13. Normally I'd turn my nose up at black and white films but Rebecca really caught and held my attention. It wasn't until about a year ago that I got round to reading the book. I found it a really enjoyable read though a little of the mystery and suspense was gone as I had seen the film, though it wasn't all ruined as I only really remembered the general gist of it. Overall, I think I enjoyed the book more than the film as you get into the thoughts of the new Mrs DeWinter a lot more, though I think I'd rather watch the film again than re-read the book. Which do you prefer?

"Last night I dreamt that I was back at Manderlay" _ the only first line of any book I can quote lol. If you enjoyed this I can recommend "My cousin Rachel" by same author. Rainy day reading if ever there was.

I feel that when you read a book, you have a movie going on in your head at the same time, and a movie director's movie won't measure up to your movie. Except, I love the Lord of the Rings movies - reading the book is a long read, and the movies capture the blood & guts so well! The fact that Vigo Mortensen is drop dead gorgeous helps too!

Fidget (178) | 4 months ago | I was reading LoTR when I heard it was going to made into films and stopped straight away as it is such a detailed book I know I'd pick the film apart with 'this bit's different' and 'they missed out that'. Plus I had the benefit of Mr Mortensen in my little head when I went back to reading it, lol.
