After Peta India presented a report to Mumbai officials pointing out that elephants who are used for begging and entertaining tourists are forced to walk on scorching hot asphalt in busy traffic, are kept chained almost constantly, often suffer from leg and eye ailments, and have been struck by cars and trucks and seriously injured or killed, the city banned elephants. Peta India was subsequently able to convince 13 other states to ban the use of elephants for begging and entertainment. Were you aware that elephants were being treated so cruelly in India? Are there other places that are just as cruel that we don't hear or know about? This article is from PETA's Spring 2008 issue.
