Poem: Black Cat - hunting  

Black Cat - hunting


The wildcat creeps around me as I ease my guard so brief -
for just a careless instant spared my once and future grief -
forgetting worry, warily, with dulled and tired relief.

Such a strange and dangerous helping of supposed normalcy -
an almost-blessing, this mirage, withdrawn as soon as seen -
then weary dread with realization of the truth so mean!

Such a leap of faith - to dare to hang on to some hope -
but eyes that strain to see some light are served the blinding "nope" -
the cat's eyes crazed and gleaming now. Its catch hangs from a rope.
