Indie films

I do beleive that indie has a lot of potential as an alternative movie. I have seen a few of their movies and I am impressed with some but not all of them has impressed me.

No matter it's a indie film or mainstream film, the quality of the film itself still has a lot to do with the filmmakers. Generally speaking, indie films could, in a way, be more experimental and bold. But to pushing the boundaries is one thing, they still have to have a solid script and presentation. So although I enjoyed a lot of indies, I'm not impressed by all of them.

But as you mentioned, film making is getting much more cheaper, so we should expecting a lot more people get into this field. Still, it's going to be challenging to present a marvelous piece.

i love indie films. they provide lessons and they show the reality of life compared to most of hollywood or local films. Those films show or use the usual movie plot.

Well, "indie" just means independent. Ie, not backed by a studio. Some independent films have really large budgets, while there are many movies backed by studios that have tiny budgets- but make it work. Blockbuster films can be made by newcomers (poorly or well) and indie films can be made by veterans as a side project (also with varying degrees of quality. So I don't think there's really any way to generalize indie movies as a whole except to say that on the whole they are a good thing, representing an alternative financial basis for movies.

Especially in the US, because the Hollywood system that was established way back in the beginning means that the bulk of studio movies tend to conform to specific expectations, and tend to avoid niche audiences. (Except for some profitable genres like horror, where studios still fund large amounts of cheapies.)

Problematically, I never know what movies are actually indie, unless they were marketed as such. At which point I tend to consider it mainstream culturally, and the 'indie-vibe' shine goes off it. But I think "Clerks" and "Pulp Fiction" were indies, and they're fab. And I recently picked up "A Dog's Breakfast" which is probably what I would consider the topmost topmost of what an indie film is for me.

It's just really hard, because the films can be a struggle to get. I so totally want to see "Treed Murray" and I guess I'll be buying it soon. Then there's shorts... I still have to figure out how to get those.
