What are your co-worker nightmares? This is mine... email this discussion to a friend?

Two and a half months ago I sort of got promoted. I say sort of because I have a whole lot more responsibility and work and no raise in pay. In addition, I'm the assistant to a co-worker that spends all day telling everyone, especially me, how wonderful she is and complaining about how much work she has to do. She is one of the most disorganized people I've ever known and she'd get a lot more work done if she'd just shut her mouth for a while.

In addition, she cannot stand our boss, who is the president of the company and is up for re-election in a few weeks and is likely going to be replaced, which makes him no fun to work with, either. Especially, since I think he hired me with the idea that I would somehow do something to impress the board of directors for him to get him re-elected. There is no way I could do that because he's already made so many enemies and he really has no clue about how to run a company. Oh, he can't stand my co-worker either and they are at war against each other and I'm stuck in the middle.

I think the worst thing about the situation is that my co-worker thinks that because I've been going through some challenging times financially and I've gained a few pounds in the past few years because of all the stress and not having funds to buy better food, that she is better than me somehow. She actually tells me that she feels sorry for me. Oh, and she jumps to all sorts of conclusions about me because, in her eyes, I'm someone to be pitied. What she doesn't know is that I'm not one bit envious of anything she has. I'd rather be where I am briefly and be the person I am than to feel the constant need to tell everyone how wonderful I am.

Oh, last week came some good news. Some attorney she knows is hiring her and she's going to work there one day a week for the next thirty days then go there full time. The challenge will be getting through the next thirty days. She keeps making underhanded comments about how they might not put me in her position but since I'm the only one in the company who knows what to do in there and I'm the one computerizing the department, I'm not concerned.

The sad thing about this woman is that she's going to work for a law firm and if she carries on about herself the way she does now, she's going to be in for a big shock. I've worked for lawyers for 22 years and they won't be impressed by all of her bragging and supposed credentials. They want someone who will do their job and keep a low profile. Someone who is discreet and this woman doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut.

I guess I've said enough. What are your co-worker nightmares?
