What you know about Dracula? you think that was real or not? |
|
The Irish writer Bram (Abraham) Stoker, made up the horrifying character for his novel, Dracula, over a hundred years ago. In the story, Dracula is tall and thin with piercing red eyes, pale skin and pointed fangs of an animal. As a vampire he can change shape. He may arrive at his victim's bedroom as a bat or a wolf. He can disappear under the door in an evil mist. The character of Count Dracula may be based on a cruel prince who actually ruled in Transylvania 500 years ago. Vlad Dracula was known for killing his enemies by driving a sharp stake through their bodies. In those days, people from Transylvania were afraid of vampires. They believed that a corpse would become a vampire if a cat jumped over it before it was buried. They also thought you would become a vampire if you were born with teeth! Dracula's castle may also be based on a real castle - Bran Castle in Transylvania. Today, many people go to Bran Castle and bravely imagine they are visiting Count Dracula.

He would impale his enemies on stakes through the bowels for slow torture. He was perfect fodder for Bram Stoker's imaginations and to name as a vampire in his book. Legends of vampires though do predate this book and predate the life of Vlad. Many in that area thought he could have been become a vampire after he died due to how he lived his life and the fact that he was buried at cross roads (one way it was believed a person would become a vampire). The reality of him though was in many ways far more grotesque then the vampiric version found in Stoker's book. His history is actually very interesting reading. There are also movies based on the historical version of him.

3. Gargoyle0134 (1251) | 4 months ago | Oh well, I don't think that vampires are immortal? And I know that Vlad Dracula was a real living prince in Romania? But I do recognize that there are people who have a sub-culture..mostly of role play, that have vampire-like lifestyles and they do exist around us. But the sun doen't hurt tem. They are basically harmless and interesting, but not immortal. But hey..whatever does itn for you? I guess it makes their lives more interesting, so they never get bored!
