leave your baby sleep alone? |

| One of my classmates will give birth to her baby in three month, now they are preparing to welcome the new member of her family. When they talk about whether to buy a small bed for the baby, people have different views here. Some thinks it is needed to buy a small bed for baby, so that it can sleep in its parents' bedroom when it is still young. While my classmates wants to buy a big bed for her baby and leave it sleep in its own room after birth. I do not know which is better for the baby. If you were the parents, what would you do? | | | | | |

| | by bed do you mean crib? when our kids were born they spent the first month or so in our room in a bassinet(small bed). then we they started to sleep through the night I put them in their own room in a crib (big bed). I didn't want them to need to be in the same room with me to sleep. they did very well in their own room. they are used to sleeping in their own bed and only come into our room when they need something. | | | | | | |

| | All 3 of my children slept in a playpen or a bassinet when they were first born. After about 6 months or so or when they began sleeping through the night, they were moved into their own room. Our bedroom is downstairs, and the childrens' rooms are all upstairs, but we did have a baby monitor in the bedroom so my husband could get up and get the baby if he or she needed him. But it's also up to the individual. Some people have children and they are not allowed in their parents' room anytime anywhere. It's all up to the family. | | | | | | |

| | Neither way is particularly better or worse for the baby. If that's the way they want things, the baby won't know any different and will be just as happy. I personally prefer to have the baby near me at night. It makes it easier to check on them when they are small and also makes the middle of the night feedings easier. Your friend may soon realize the same thing and decide to move the baby into her room afterall. Or it may be easier for them to have the baby in a different room. They will figure out what works best for them after the baby is born. | | | | | | |

| | It is best to buy them a crib - it is the safest things for babies to sleep in. Sometimes my 8 month old crashes in bed with us but before we were afraid to let her sleep with us just because she was so small. The pediatrician also reccomends babies sleep in a crib. I think the crib is also better because then they get used to sleeping in it so they are less likely to resist it when you try to get them to sleep in their own bed/room as they get older. It really doesn't matter what a baby sleeps in the first few weeks...my son slept in his stroller because we didn't have a crib yet! | | | | | | |

| | I'm not yet a mom but I would like my baby to sleep with us, parents, in our room. Maybe if the nanay got older, we would allow him/her to sleep in nis/her own room.I like my baby to be near us all as much as possible while he/she is growing up. | | | | | | |

| | When my niece was born we had a crib there but for the first few weeks we had her in a bassinet, which is much smaller. This way as a new born she wasn't going from a tiny womb to this huge bed. We had her in her own room but we did have a monitor so we could hear her no matter where we were in relationship to her room. The bassinet was also on wheels so during the day if we wanted we could bring it out to the family room. I think having them in their own room from the beginning is best. That way you don't run into problems when they are older and trying to put them in their own room. | | | | | | |

| | I suppose this is a personal choice to where they sleeps bubs right from the start. It is just that most parents prefer to have the baby in a bassinette in thier room for the first little while, and that is for so many reasons. when my children were first born they slept in basinettes in our room, much easier to feed and change through the nights, I can hear them breathing etc too. Also if you put them into a normal cot from the start they just look so little, they still usually do anyway when you do put them in there. I dont think it matters at all if they do go straight into a cot as long as they are slept in the right postion etc... It all comes down to the parents decisions I guess. | | | | | | |

| | My children never slept in my bed with me, but for the first 6 months or so, they slept in a bassinet right next to my bed. I wanted to hear them if they choked in their sleep, or just if they needed me. I had c-sections with both my children, so having them close was vital to my recovery. It was so hard to go from lying to sitting, for at least the first week or so. I enjoyed having them close to me, and felt like a wonderful bond to me. My children sleep well, and always have, in their own rooms. So I dont think it effected them in a negative way at all. | | | | | | |

| | With our son, who is now two, we had a bassinet in our room till he was about three months. He started scooting up and hitting his head on the bassinet so we knew it wasn't long enough for him to sleep in so that is when we starting letting him sleep in his crib in his room. He has always slept through the night since day one so that was never a problem for us. He did great, both in the bassinet and in his crib. Now he's in a toddler bed - does great with that too. On occasion, he has slept with us but it's usually only when he is not feeling well. And it's about once every few months. In my own opinion and from what I have seen/experienced with other moms/kids, children that sleep with their parents (especially parents that allow their children to sleep in bed with them often if not all the time), often times they are very clingy or dependant upon their parents. Now I know this isn't all children, but I have experienced a lot that are like that. BUT above ANYTHING, I think that every mom should do what their mommy instinct tells them to do. :) | | | | | | |
