Most people are poor, as in most countries, and a man's heart wept for them. He resigned his prestigious and comfortable post of Roman Catholic Bishop to serve the people.
There you see a true man of the people. Not the guirella fighter that lines his pockets in the name of people.
Fernando Lugo, the former Bishop, contested the presidential election and won it with 41% of votes.
Unlike in Burma and Zimbabwe the victory is respected here in Paraguay.
The sitting President, Nicanor Duarte, said the power will be transferred according to democratic process.
This from the man whose party was the longest governing in the world.

Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo exposed a conspiracy meeting at the residence of ret. Gral. Lino Oviedo which Pais Solidario Party Sen. Carlos Filizzola called Coup attempt. Among the guests were General Maximo Diaz, the link between the Armed Forces and Congress, Ret. General Lino Oviedo, ex President Nicanor Duarte and Senate President Enrique Gonzalez. The conspiracy meeting at Oviedo's place also involved Election Justice Minister Juan Manuel Morales and Attorney General Ruben Candia Amarilla.
