In my opinion it is not okay to spank a child, because while it may make a child conform in the short run, there is a respected body of research which shows that spanking is associated with a range of emotional and social problems. Therefore, it is best to play it safe and avoid spanking your child, and to use other ways to set limits and manage problem behaviors.

if your the parent and he or she is being dirispectful or misbehaving and you tierd oof telling him or her to behave then yeah that way they will learn to respect that when you say something you mean it

That depends - are you trying to teach your child that the only way to solve problems is through the use of force? That bigger people that can hit harder get their way? Because that is what spanking teaches. If you want to teach your child the difference between right and wrong there are much better, more effective methods to do so. All children need to learn consequences, but they also need to learn to choose to do right for the sake of right, not because they will get punished if they don't. Words and actions are the best teachers. If you do spank, don't be surprised to find out that your child learns to hit others to get their way.
