Can we make peanut butter at home? |
|
I love peanut butter. Actually, I am just crazy about it. But, unfortunately, peanut butter is not that popular in my locality. We get peanut butter here, but it is imported from America and it is so costly and nobody can afford it. Nobody makes peanut butter here coz I guess people don't know the taste and don't really enjoy it. So, is it possible to make peanut butter at home? Peanuts are available in plenty and at low cost too. If someone can tell me how to make peanut butter at home, I could try it.
Cheers and happy mylotting.

1. jdyrj777 (2375) | 2 years ago | I live in USA and have considered making peanut butter myself. Thing is if i look at ingredients on jar its only suger, soybean oil but it doesn't mention how much. I imagine you could find recipes online. Peanut butter here is cheaper store bought. Peanuts are expensive here. as well as other kind of nuts. You just grind them in the blender till yiu have butter. You can also use other kind of nuts to make butter.

positiveminded1977 (4517) | 2 years ago | Hi, thanks for your response. It is the opposite here: peanuts are cheap and peanut butter, because it is imported, is very very costly. Anywayz, I found a great website with loads of recipes.

3. Galena (4171) | 2 years ago | a health food shop where I used to live used to make it right in front of you. literally by putting peanuts in a blender, for chunky, or longer for smooth. the peanuts have enough oils to make it buttery.

If you google the web you'll find any number of recipes and directions on how to make peanut butter. I might take several attempts to get just the way you want but all will be edible. Just stare with small amounts

6. ltmoon (849) | 2 years ago | It really helps everyone understand better if you tell us where "here" is. We can tell from your comment that you are not in America, but the rest of the world is a pretty big place for us to guess about.
As for Peanut Butter, if you have access to peanuts, then yes! you can make peanut butter at home. It would help greatly to have an electric food processor/chopper like a Cuisinart or other similar brand. You can use an electric blender, but you have to do it in small batches.
Basically you can make "butter" out of any type of nut and also many types of seeds and grains.
- Prepare the nuts by removing shells. - Optional. Lightly toast shelled nuts in oven. - Place some nuts in food processor. Fill half full. - Begin chopping nuts. Continue until nuts have been chopped and pureed into a smooth consistency. - I do not add salt, but adjust to your taste. - Scrape into container with a tight fitting lid. - Store in cupboard or cool dry place for up to 2 months. - The longer the nut butter is stored, it may separate - the solids from the nut's oil. No worries! just stir it back together and use.
I have made "Butters" from many different types of nuts - almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans.
Butters can also be made from seeds, though they are often called pastes instead of butters. One of the most famous seed type butters is widely used in the Eastern Mediterranean area and the Arabique countries - Tahini. It is made from ground sesame seeds. Seeds are easier to do with a food grinder than a food processor. If you have a food grinder you can make nut butters using the grinder instead of a food processor.
Buon Appetito!

desertdarlene (5848) | 2 years ago | That is so cool! Yes, that's exactly how I would make it. I buy "natural" peanut butter all the time and basically all they do is grind the nuts and store them like you said. The natural oils in the peanuts is what makes it smooth. You can also add chopped nuts if you like that chunky taste.
I like mine without sugar or salt, but you can add those if you like. I would also recommend refrigerating this peanut butter once you open it up.

8. CurlyRed (3474) | 2 years ago | There aer stores here where you can grind your own pean ut butter fresh. Mind you, it is peanut butter.. just peanut butter. If you want it to taste like store bought, I suppose you would have to throw in a bunch of whipped fat and sugar.
