man tried to switch UPC's to get a tv for the price of a bottle of water |
| |
| I can't believe someone thought they would get away with it. >According to documents filed in Adair County Circuit Court, Newman allegedly tried to purchase a 26-inch Viore LCD television from Wal-Mart, claiming the UPC code valued at $3.16 was the proper code the television, which normally sells for more than 517.00< http://www.kirksvilledail... Nut what gets me is that there was no mention of evidence proving that he did it and not someone else, I have heard of people ding htat to try to save money or get things at a reduced rate. But this is the first time I have ever heard of an indictment happen, although it makes sense that charges woudl be brought against them... Do you think the charges are appropriate, do you think there needs to be proof. Mooch | | | | | |

| | More than likely the guy did make the switch but I did not read anywhere in that article where it said he was caught on security camera doing it or caught by anyone so I don't see how they can prove that he did it. But if he argued with them and tried to insist he get the TV for that low price then that right there would show guilt to me, anyone not guilty of switching the lable would be just as shocked at the mistaken price as the employee and would have had no problem paying the correct price. | | | | | | |

| | In this case yes it is appropriate because he does whether he changed the ticket or not that no tv cost 3.16 sense so that makes that this man was trying to fraud the store and steal a tv you may as well say. | | | | | | |

| | a upc label most often doesn't give a price. so, if he just picked up the item and then tried to purchase it and it rang up at 3 dollars, it is not his fault. imagine if you went to buy something and it had the wrong tag and then they arrested you? that wouldn't be justice but injustice. i would bet they have the guy on camera and that is how he is getting arrested. peace | | | |

| | What is the deal with this...this is the second time one of your discussions has gotten cut off on the page where we respond and you are the only one I've seen this happen with! UGH! Well...the article didn't explain what proof they had but I do hope it was concrete. I think it is plausible that he was not the one who swapped the stickers...but if he was innocent I doubt he would have argued the point. I know it still counts as theft but the punishment seems a bit stiff to me. He didn't actually steal it, he just attempted to. I have no idea what else about this you wanted to discuss because now I can only read the first 4 lines so hopefully I covered it all. | | | | | | |

| | Hey if he was stupid enough to try it knowing well and good that he would be caught then yes he deserves the punishment. Why do people think they can get away with whatever they feel like. I don't know. I guess they'll push things as far as they can. What a jerk. | | | | | | |

| | If he did that then he is daft to think that he would get away with it for that little! If you are going to try that sort of thing you have to at least make the price realistic. I have done it before when I was 18 and on my own with my first child, I used to swap prices on clothes, I did it quite a few times. I would never have done it on anything big though!! | | | | | | |

| | For me, I would think they would need to have proof on Security camera, or someone who seen the evidence of this themselves besides a Clerk, and not just someone who thinks it was them. Because in this day and age you really need proof and a witness I would think before you can charge someone with something. And for me, I used to work in Customer service in Retail as a Cashier. I know I may not have always been the brightest or the best when it came to catching mistakes on things, but this to me would be a WARNING FLAG, and there is no way anyone could ever leave my register if they tried to pull something like this. I know in every WalMart I ever go into, there is usually someone standing there at the front or the registers to help out when there is a problem, so how it ever did not just stop at that is beyond me. But a TV for the price of water? What was someone thinking? I guess when you're desperate, you're desperate? | | | | | | |

| | I'm sure the guy new exactly what he was doing...we used to have these kind of problems all the time when i was in retail...if he would have been smarter, he would have switched it with a $200 TV and then the person probably wouldn't have noticed because it would have come up on the register as a TV...then he could have turned it around and sold it for $500 or whatever on ebay... It's scary but I could be a retail criminal mastermind because of all the time I spent in those stores trying to prevent theft...the good thing is I believe in karma so of course don't do anything of the sorts!! | | | | | | |

| | i think it is really dumb of the man to do that... a TV selling for $517 and he is trying to get it for $3.16... i think it is too brave and obvious... the staff in walmart is not that stupid and i think they know roughly how much the item cost in the shop... i work in a retail company as well as a cashier and i won't be fooled by these types of people... it is very cunning to do that... hope he will get the punishment he deserves... | | | | | | |
