Should one brush their teeth after every meal? Or just twice a day: in the morning and in the night before going to bed?

I believe the recommendation is 3 times a day. Morning afternoon and bedtime. I think most people accomplish the morning and bedtime routine. Kind of hard to make time in the middle of the day. Especially if you are at work.

Thanks. I've been brushing my teeth for the past 3 years after every meal. My hubby tells me that too much fluoride is not good for the teeth. So I'll now only brush in the morning, afternoon and before going to bed at night. Thanks again.

These days it's recommended after every meal (or snack) - anytime you eat. But since this is near impossible, our dentist told us to at least rinse with water after you eat. The reason is - tooth decay begins the second food touches your teeth and continues up to 20 minutes after you've finished eating. After that it's kind of pointless to brush because the tooth decay has already occurred. Therefore, if you can't brush, rinse right away. Or chew sugarless gum. He said rinsing is better - but I can't do that all the time either so I chew sugarless gum.

I brush my teeth after every meal but my hubby keeps telling me that too much fluoride is not good for the teeth. I had no idea that if you "can't brush" you can rinse instead or "chew sugarless gum. Thanks for the valuable info.

I just do this when I get up and before I eat breakfast..Habits are hard to break but when I was younger I brushed in the a.m. and also before I went to bed.
Now I am retired I never think about doing this at night..This is probably when I need to brush and floss the most as this is when the damage is done to your teeth by germs. Thanks for reminding me to brush and FLOSS at least two times a day. I will try to do this...

Three years ago I never bothered to brush my teeth before going to bed at night or after meals. I just brushed my teeth in the morning. But something really scared me which made me take care of my teeth better. A friend of mine had to have 3 of her molars removed because of tooth decay which got me to start brushing my teeth after every meal.

no i think after having a meal if we just pour water in mouth and just releasing it is enough but brushing daily in morning and at nights is compulsory. so brush your teeth at least twice. haaa!!!

Rinsing the mouth as well as brushing your teeth twice a day sounds like a pretty good routine to follow when it comes to taking care of your teeth. Thanks.

Since we are a kid we are taught of brushing our teeth three times a day...so I recommend you to do it....morning when you wake up.....afternoon after luch and at night.......so you can have a fresh breath.....hehehe

I wish my parents had made me brush my teeth thrice a day when I was kid. I use to only brush once in the morning and sometimes at night. I never really had any complaints about bad breath, but maybe that's because I used a mouthwash on a regular basis. But I only really started taking care of my teeth 3 years back. Thanks for your advise.

Doctors generally recommend to brush our teeth twice once in the morning and once in the night. I follow this routine.

You must have very strong and healthy teeth. I wish I had taken care of mine from the very start but I only started to do so 3 years back.

Most toothpaste labels say twice a day but we usually eat at least thrice so I guess it's better to brush 3x. You can do it more than that, that's good.

I wish I had been disciplined enough to have brushed my teeth thrice a day from the start. But I have made sure my kids do. Thanks for your reply.

I think you should brush your teeth when you wake up and go to bed, and after every meal.

myLot reputation of 96/100. serendib (782)   ranked 17 out of 434 in health  4 months ago

That sounds like a good brushing routine to follow to prevent tooth decay. Thank you.

Thanks. I find it difficult at times to brush my teeth after every meal. Instead I just rinse my mouth with warm salted water.
