If a spider comes into your house, do you kindly catch it and throw it out? Or.. |
|
Do you squash it, stamp it with your foot or a book or whatever is close at hand?
I am petrified of spiders, but will allow no one to kill one, insisting that it is bad luck, and I have always said that it is bad luck for as long as I could remember, there is even a rhyme that I say and it goes, "If you wish to live and thrive, Let the spider run alive". Well the other day my son asked me "Why is it bad luck to kill a spider?" I did not have a clue, and so I went ahunting on the internet and I came up with it being bad luck because, they are a sign of good luck and fortune, and I even saw the rhyme I had in my head there!!
In fact there are many reasons not to kill a spider and I found them on this website and it is really quite interesting:
www.spiderzrule.com/superstitions.htm
If you get chance and are interested, take a look, it is really interesting.
Oh, and I never actually throw them out, I get my eldest to do the honours for me, I am not that brave!!

2. nova1945 (1094) | 2 years ago | I am terrified of spiders. If I see one in my house I will break my neck to get something to kill it with. Apparently I have a sensitivity of sorts to spider bites that makes me swell at the bite spot and it turns hard as a marble for days. The problem spiders love me for some reason. You can release a thousand mosquitoes and one spider in a room and you can bet the spider will be the one to bite me. I never heard they were lucky. But, in my mind, the only good spider is a dead spider.

3. OreoCookie3 (18601) | 2 years ago | If it is just a granddaddy long legs spider I can pick it up and put it outside, but any other kind of spider I am just too freaked out over. My daughter does not like to kill them because she is scared of bad luck.. so she sweeps them out with the broom.
I know they must be as scared of us as we are of them, but I just can't seem to get over my fear of them. If it has 8 legs I am afraid of it... unless it is really little and looks non-threatening. The big brown and black ones I would have a heart attack if I saw one and tried to deal with it on my own... nope... my daughter will get them out gently sweeping them out.
I have gunned them with raid before when we had Raid in the house. I just don't want them in the house. I know they do good, but i am scared of them.

Loen210 (574) | 2 years ago | Oreo hun, Good for you on the granddaddy longlegs. I am too much of a coward to pick them up and put them outside, but I whenever i try to put bugs outside, I use a tissue and engulr them carefully and fold it over lightly so it won't run onto my hand. But I haven't done this often with spiders, who I have left alone in the house more! Eeek. I just posted on this matter, and then saw you'd answered on another similar posting.:o)

7. mummymo (11642) | 2 years ago | LOL poor rose! We used to get THE biggest spiders you have ever seen running across the wooden floor in the living room and I would shriek at the size and speed of them although I am not generally scared of them! I never usually kill them cos I think it is cruel when it is so easy to put them safely outside but if they were quick and I couldn't get it out I would splat them with a shoe - it was better than watching the cat chew it then spit it out! xxx

| 8. Nushka (65) | 2 years ago | I have no problems with spiders. If it was for me, I would just let them be with their spiderwebs and all. However, I live with someone who's very affraid of them so I have to eliminate every spider I spot.

10. AmbiePam (15314) | 2 years ago | I kill them. Some of them are poisonous, but of course we can't always tell, some of them are harmless. I especially don't want one to bite and hurt my dog. I had a teacher once who was bitten, and almost died because they couldn't figure out what was making her so sick. It turned out to be a spider bite she didn't know she had. I live with some woods behind me, so I'm pretty careful. If I'm afraid of anything, it would be spiders. My dog tries to play with them! He'll get them in his mouth, and then put them down, and then wait for them to make a move. LOL, he never eats or kills them, he just wants to play.
