tenant in incest house heard knocking but did nothing  

Maybe he just thought this guy was weird, but not crazy enough to do soemthing like this. Who in their right right would believe anyone was capable of doing something so horrible. I wish the tenant had done or said something though. I am just horrified at what this poor woman had to go through for years. Most of her life she spent locked up. I am a little confused though. The article did not say how this all came out in the open? I am guessing his grandchildren are also his children? Are they all alive?

wow I dont know what to think of the tenant..I mean..damn...wow..I'm speechless on that one at the moment BUT..THIS part of that article BLOWS MY MIND

Oh my gosh Mooch, this is yet another disturbing aspect.... God That man had balls, to have a tenant living in the house... cripes can you imagine the audacity of thinking you live beyond the law? Yeah I think if I was hearing odd noises, I would have insisted we needed an exterminator for rodents or the house was haunted... something.

to you rat on your neighbours all the time, most people do not, they mind their business, imagine the telephone conversation to the police, I hear strange noises and the man next door carries food into the his cellar at tnigght. Most police officers would laugh at that and think the man is crazy. Unless he had said I believe someone is being held hostage, they are not going to take that seriously. Trust me I have seen the law in action many times living in the ghetto. But this poor man hand no idea anyone was held hostage. And as a counsellor I would be there to console him. You might say yes but the knocking, well pipes in a basement can sound like knocking that in in off itself it not enough to mean anything. Even if it was loud banging, he could call the police and say there is loud noise, the police would come and talk to the owner and say your neibhbour is complaining of the noise in your cellar stop working late at night, no one is going to think there is a person down there because frankly this is the first time we have ever heard of this happening.

The tenant probably did not connect the dots, or maybe didn't want to get involved for fear of being kicked out or worse. I think if I heard noises and saw that I would be curious at least and try to find out. But being that maybe he had no concrete evidence that he was breaking the law, the guy opted to mind his own business.

It is very sad indeed. Even sadder is the fact that it in now way surprises me.
Society no longer looks out for each other for the most part. We have become a society that turns our heads and does not want to get involved.
I just read about a local homeless man that was an ex marine and disabled who was beaten with a board of nails by two men and not a soul intervened on his behalf.
It made me ill to think of his pain and suffering.

I guess at first I would think it was odd, but I would never in a million years think something to this degree was going on. But, as the article went on and I read more about what the tenant described...I agree...there comes a point at which you say "There is SOMETHING going on here. I have no idea what, or if it's illegal, or anything...but SOMETHING is going on!"

That photo of him at the beach is simply disgusting and I definitely did not need that image in my head.

Oh yes, it infuriates me and I am bothered by so many of the violent crime which goes on.. you'd think I'd turn off the news, wouldn't ya? But no.. I still watch or listen to or read the news more than anything else! Why? Guess I just want to know what's going on in the world.. but none of it is good!! But it's the acts of violence.. people disappearing.. the one about the intentionally tainted blood thinner.. so many strange, bizarre and cruel things in the world.. and imprisoning someone, your own daughter to boot! What's wrong with these people??!!

that is horrific. i can not believe that someone would do that to their child or any child.

how did her hell end? did she finally escape or did someone call in the police?

I really wonder, where is his wife?? the mother of the daughter.

I didn't see any mention of her.
I would think that she might notice her daughter missing for this long.
I wonder if she was aware of this or approved of it or what.
I really pray this woman is able to cope.
just imagine how traumatic this all must be for her (and her children).
he lured her into the cellar and drugged her, just after she was 12 years old, and she's now in her 40's!
that is just so unbelievable.
I pray that she receives all the support she needs and is able to live as normal of a life from now on as possible.
