$85 an hour a bit much for an IT guy in the US?

Well if you want to make the 85 an hour you should go and get the neccessary paper work to be able to do it. Do you have anything to compare this to as far as what the average pay is with his experience/qualifications? Do you know how much money he invested in school? Heck psychologist are upwards of 140 and hour and all the do is listen to people's problems and diagnose them with mental illnesses which many happen to mimic one another, this is why they continued their education so they can make this type of money. All I have to say is Great for your neighbor!

Actually that is about right for someone who does work on computers as a business. I dont know about for someone who is employed by a company or something like that, but I have to assume the company would have to pay him handsomely to keep him from striking out on his own. This may not be that far-fetched after all.

hi my son is making twenty eight dollars an hour and thats on the low end for computer programmers so its conceivable I guess but it sounds a bit high to me My son was making forty one thousand a year and was cut back and then given a raise but hes getting less than he really should I know he says some programmers make about fifty dollars an hour and that is pretty typical on the high end of the scale . I think the guy is stretching it some for a good story. more like fifty would be my guess. maybethe guy wanted to make a good story

Here in Phoenix, that sounds right if the guy has his own business. I know people who charge $170 or even $250 to check out your computer, getting running well and get virus etc. off of it. But that also means that he might not be working 40 hours a week if he doesn't get new clients or repeat work in. Also I had someone fix my computer and it cost $170, but he spent at least 4 hours on it, because I had a doosy yucky redirect thing - don't ask me the technical term - it was messed up. I also have lots of toys hooked up to my computer and I don't think expected all of that.

I suppose it is supply and demand if we need these people then we have to pay them for thier services.

We need people to kick a ball to hit it into a net and pay them obsene money to do it!

id say this man is making some crazy cash that i want to make one day wow, looks like im chaning my career, i want to be an IT guy lol, but thats great for him tho, but he probaly works or is on call 24 hrs or has a hetic schedule ..taxes are going to bite him in the butt tho

My partners best friend here in Canada is an IT guy. I don't know how much he makes off hand but I do know it's not that much.

Are you sure this guy is really making that much or do you think it could maybe be a story cooked up by him to make himself look good in front of others.

$85 an hour for an IT guy really does seem to be a little bit too much.

i think if you can make a lot of programs and do hacking, yes there are a lot of people paid for that.

This is believable in the U.S. but in Canada, unless you run your own business, it is pretty much impossible to make $85 an hour doing IT work. Good for him and obviously he spent a lot of time earning the education for that.
