how long should an engagement last?  | |  my husband and i were engaged for a year and a half before getting married. i found that this amount of time worked for us. it let us pay for everything cash and it gave enough time to our out of town friends and relatives to make arrangements to come.
i have a friend that got engaged the same day that we did, christmas day 2005, and they still aren't married. i have found that they argue over where to have the ceremony, the wedding colors even where to register. i just find it amazing that three years later, they haven't even set a date.
is there a point to a long, drawn out engagement? it just seems to me that if you have to wait that long to get married, that you still have a lot of doubts about your relationship.

I think 2 years or longer is too long; because it's like why get engaged then? Might as well, just stayed how you were, and proposed when you sure you 2 would be able to set a date! But I do definitely believe you should live and be with your significant other before you end up getting engaged/married!
also maybe your friends wanted to wait until you were finished getting married and celebrating!

| | 3.  teetee195 (222) | 2 months ago |  We got engaged in Dec and will be married in August we are paying for the wedding ourselves and everything will be paid by cash so there is no debt afterwards. The worst thing to do is start out a marriage with debt creates money fights.....not worth it.
Long engagements I wonder about if your that happy about being engaged why not move it to being married the sooner the better...
