Did Kenny Rogers CHEAT in the World Series?  | | | |  Being from Detroit I am a loyal fan to my home team, but I will tell ya, I was a little disappointed when Kenny Rogers got caught with an "unknown substance" on his hand in game #2.
Now, I think we can all safely agree that the "substance" was Pine Tar. The fact is that although illegal from basebll, 70% of pitchers use it. That is NOT justification! I am just stating a fact.
But it just bummed me out because the next day it was all over the news on the web and in the papers.
So what do you think? Did Kenny Rogers CHEAT in the World Series? Should he have been thrown out?

| | Yeah, I totally agree with you. I think it is one of those "don't ask don't tell" things, but, unfortunately Kenny had so much pine tar his entire palm was stained! So obvious - lol!

| |  Yes, if Kenny Rogers truly was using pine tar, then he was cheating. He knows the rules of the game, and even though it is done by so many other pitchers, he has to realize that this was the World Series, not just an average season game. Every camera was on every possible angle of his body, as with all the other players.
I don't think that he should have been thrown out of the game. I agree with the way it was handled. He was warned, and he washed it off. If he tried to do it again, then yes, he should have been thrown out.
Even though I am from St. Louis and extremly happy at the result of the Cardinals winning, I still think that it is sad that the "unknown substance" had to hang over this series. And it leaves so many questions...
Did that incident have a negative impact on the Tiger's drive to win?
Would they have won that game if Rogers wasn't pitching? (Since it has been mentioned in the media several times, "the only game the Tigers won was the game they cheated on.")
And the biggest question of all, if that incident had not happened and the Tiger's manager put Rogers in to pitch on the final game, as he was originally scheduled to, could the Tiger's have won and brought the series back to Detroit?
And I agree, it bummed me out too. The media had a field-day with that story, and not only did the smudge show-up on Roger's hand, but it also left a smudge on the entire World Series and sadfully, on Kenny Roger's remaining career.
