why do most of guys love to drink alcoholic liquors?

My boyfriend likes German white wine and beer; I tried the wine but even with my background (I'm half Italian), I just don't like it! Beer is an acquired taste--20 years ago, I had to eat Cool Ranch Doritos just to disguise the taste (or make it nearly slush by freezing it!). I like it somewhat better now, but I'm not really into wine and I drink beer for only 2 reasons: 1) because I'm with my boyfriend or 2) it's all that's available.

I think its just a macho guy thing. My friend drinks alot and he says it's because it makes him feel better when he's in pain or tired. He doesn't understand that it changes his personality/if he drinks too much he acts like a jerk.
