Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer?

As far as I am concerned, I prefer the former ones, the kind of movies designed to make us think.

Firstly, serious movies can give us something to think about. Unlike amusing ones, probably there is nothing still left in our mind after a certain period of time. Comparatively, serious movies are supposed to stipulate the audience to think, acquire something valuable from the thinking and then keep it in mind for a relatively longer period of time. Such is a kind of course of learning, and what we obtain in this way maybe turn out to be a necessary supplement to what we learn from
the textbooks.

Furthermore, the serious movies can help us gain some life experiences we might have not had in our real life before. Through imaging ourselves being in the plot, we may get to know how to
make the proper reactions in different situations. Also the movies give us the opportunity to think or value whether the roles act right or not, through which we are sure to become smarter than before, which is definitely benefit to our future life.

I prefer comedy movies. I believe that there are enough troubles in a persons so why watch a movie that gives you a flash back of those sad and unpleasant memories. Comedies on the other hand let you free for and hour or two to get away from all the stuff going around in your life and have a good laughter.

I like to watch a movie that make me amuse. As I can't understand a very complicated movie. Sometimes it feels boring as I am unable to understand it. So I prefer to watch a relaxing movie.

I prefer funny movies no matter it is meaningful or meaningless. Because I am a person kind of serious-minded. I kept on searching the meaning of almost everything happened in daily life. That really exhausted me. But it seems I can do little about it. So I would like to choose some funny movies to enjoy and relax.

I would prefer a movie that let me think. Unfortunately these are the most unpopular but some bag the awards. Movies like "Beautiful Mind", "Fearless", "The Last Emperor", "Stand by me", "The Last Samurai", "Forest Gump" and more.

This distinction is actually at the heart of one of my most annoying ongoing battles. Because don't get me wrong, I love the frivolous movie. I can watch them days on end. Literally. And it's quite easy to turn most 'serious, thinking' movies into light entertainment, if you watch them enough, and don't bother to 'digest' them, and just let it all skim along in the background to your day. Really, it's like a little death.

But I definitely crave the thinking movie. I agree with you that there are movies made for contemplation, but if you take an interesting approach, most movies, even the light ones, have aspects that can inspire rigorous analysis and lead to surprising revelations. It comes down to taking the time, giving the concentration necessary to draw connections and extract meaning.

I tend to avoid things that are hard, some massive fear of failure or something. But I know the deeper movies are my favourite because when I take the plunge and dive in I'm so much happier. It's like all the time I'd spent before was zombie life, and when the neurons start firing, I'm on the 'living' side of the slow shamble.

I prefer the thinking ones most of the time. Mostly because they are timeless and can be watched almost anytime. Comedies on the other hand are almost dated to the time in which they are released. For example, when I was young, I used to think Caddyshack and Spaceballs were funny movies. When I last watched them, they seemed a bit dated, nothing made me outwardly laugh. Even the Naked Gun movies I thought were so outrageous in the eighties, and now they really do nothing for me. I see that happening today as well, the Scary movie, Not Another Teen movie, Epic Movie, etc, are only appealling because they are relevant mockeries of recent films, but I bet fifteen years down the road, you won't catch yourself rewatching any of these films.

I prefer movies that amuse me as I always do a lot of thinking as to how the movie should have gone about. Movies need not make me think. lol

I think it really depends on my moods, one of my favorite movies, The Ultimate Gift which is one that makes one think, I also have favortie movies that are humorous, like Back to the Future series, and other comedies that I can't think of...

but it really depends on the mood I'm in and what I want to watch

If quality movies were made with intelligence and creativity, I think the value you see in them is worthwhile. I prefer a movie that stimulates my mind, especailly something off the wall like sci-fi.

Conversely, I think today's movies (with some exceptions) teach people the wrong things to do in situations. I also think most movies are so far from reality and exaggerated, they lose value.

I like funny movies every once in awhile, but again, there's not too much comedy, only silliness. Good comedy can stimulate as well, but brain candy movies, no.

I also think movie plots are designed to provoke emotions that don't add to the movie. Sometimes a movie will have a touching moment inserted for the sole purpose of getting people to cry.

Overall,I prefer a well-written drama, if such a thing exists.
