will u say "I will" or "i do"?  |

 I attended a wedding recently, and the bride and groom both answered "I will" when the pastor asked "Do you ______ take _______ as your lawfully wedded husband/wife....".
So that got me to thinking what is it really? Or what is it supposed to be?
When I got married, my husband and I answered, "I do". And I think it is logical because the question starts with "Do." So it is probably right to answer, "I do." Unless of course, the question starts with "Will" so the answer "I will" would be more appropriate.
What do you think of this? What is the correct grammar?

| 3. abekah (9) | 2 years ago | i think this very question is some how hard but i thing i have to say something about it. and i think the answer should be i do because if you the ward do is something that you have detainming for it some years back and it has deeply comes to life but when you uses the ward will is some thing that when you get you will do or some thing that you have promise to do but has not come to realities due to some problems. so in my opinion i think the answer is supose to be i do than i will and if not so then it means that both two does not like each other because they two agree to leave together so i dont know the reasons why they should say i will then that means they are not faithfully to each other.stay bless and leave long for God to give you more sigt to bring in more discussions. | |

Like you said, sometimes it says something like "will you promise to love and cherish...blah blah blah" lol. Sorry I don't really have it memorize;P And sometimes it states, "do you take..." So how you should answer, I think depends on what version of the thing you get!:)
Sounds like your friends should have said "I do." But I really think when it comes down to it, it is the couples choice.:D

| 8. Malyck (1687) | 2 years ago |  I think that "I do" is more appropriate as an answer to the question, as yes, it does start with "Do you...", so to answer "I will" is like... "Yeah, I don't right now... but I will... some time" lol. You know what I mean.
Technically, though (according to me), we could lose the formal nature and just say "Yes"?
