 Some may recall the saga of my tax refund where the IReffenS "garnished" my 2007 tax refund and applied it toward a nonexistent $5,000.00+ underpayment for tax year 2005.
After nearly a year of proclaming my innocence, hours spent on the phone with my accountant and people who work for the IRS I finally got my 2007 refund yesterday. Just a check, no explanation, and of COURSE, no apology.
Apparently I still face an underpayment of somewhere between $8.00 and $13.00 for tax year 2005, but I haven't received notification of that yet.
It shows to go ya: The IReffenS is NOT always right.

2.  katsmeow1213 (1225) | 3 months ago |  2007 must have been a really messed up year for the IRS. Because that is the same year they kept my husband's return, which was over $5,000, claiming he had not filed in 2003. Well, had he filed he may have owed them $200, not nearly the $5,000 they kept!

I know we kept saying we were going to so we'd eventually get the money, but we knew at the same time the tax money would only be taken my his student loans, which finally just got paid off with this years taxes. We weren't ever overly concerned about it, but if I find out that we still haven't filed them I may do so to have that extra money now. | |

Those IRfuckinS people really know how to draw things out, at least when it's them that owes, and not you. But I'm happy for you, darlin, and it just goes to show that unlimited amounts of patience and perserverence DO, in the end, pay off. I wouldn't hold my breath, though, for the $8 and $13 respectively. I don't think they're terribly worried about it, do you? But hey, you did get the big one, after all! Oh,uh, I meant the money, yeah,the money.

I don't know why they didn't just take it out of the refund check. Go figure ANYTHING the IReffenS does. | |

I wish I could clear up my taxes like that I owe state this year in an amount we can't afford, and here I went and spent my rebate on something I really wanted, simply because I know that I wouldn't have the chance to get it again for a long time.
But I am so very very glad you got your 2007 return and hopefully things with the IRS go more smoothly for you from here on out, I hate the IRS and I hate the government, it woudl be nice to do away with taxes like this altogether however........we know that won't happen.

| rjscott (1750) | 3 months ago | Mooch, but it took me nearly a year and countless calls to the IReffenS to clear up the mess.
In addition, my accountant told me that he could not continue to keep providing the callbacks for nothing. He charged me several hundred dollars more than his original fee to get the mess straightened out.
And who turned out to be at fault? The last agent for the IReffenS I spoke with ... he admitted to my accountant that he'd failed to take notes the first time they spoke, thus dragging the mess on for several more months.
I suppose we COULD secede from the union and start our own independent state, eh? (But where would we get the funds to pay for it?)
