| | | | | | | | 1.  sunnflr (883) | 2 years ago |  My son is 16 now, but this is what worked well for me when he was potty training.
First, I started out by taking him to the potty every time I went. This was when he was still wearing his diapers. Just to get him used to the idea, before we really starting the training process.
Then, after he got used to his little potty, I started taking him every hour and a half just to see if he had to go. I'd tell him let's go try to potty. I didn't make him stay there forever or anything, just a couple mins to see if he had to go.
Once he was in a routine of going it was a breeze. I started all of this when he was almost two and he was completely trained by 2 and a half. It wasn't a really fast process, but it worked.

does he/she wear disposable diapers or cloth?
does he/she show any signs of being aware of being wet?

does he dislike a wet or messy diaper,does he pull at it when wet?
does he imitate you when you go to the bathroom?
these are a couple of signs of being ready.
I would start with the naked method if possible,right after waking up in the morning,after his change,let him run around the house for a couple of hours each day.
after his first meal of the day,set your kitchen timer for about 45 minutes and tell him,when it goes off,he must run to the potty and sit for about 3 minutes,if he does,reward him with an m&m's,if he accidentilly does produce on one of these trips,up the reward.you can substitue whatever prize you wish,I have always used the m&m's,so just use it as an example.
this should get you started for a week or so,then we will add some other methods.
please let me know how he does and we will go from there.
