Stop Thief! |

Have you ever had an animal take things from you? I once collected several 5 gallon buckets of pecans and placed them in the garage until I could find time to crack them out of the shell. About a month later I went to retrieve them and every single pecan was gone!! Well, there was a piece of a shell sitting there, mocking me. The squirrels had robbed me blind! Yesterday, I was outside helping my dad sort through some things for his upcoming move and I had several things on a table. I turned my back to go into the house and get something, and when I turned the corner I heard a ruckus around the table. I thought my Dad's dog may have seen something, and I went back to investigate. When I got to the table there was a crow there, and he had something in his mouth! I don't know what it was, but it was red. The crow looked at me with a twinkle in its eye, then flew about 10 feet away into the carport, landed on a box, and looked at me as if to taunt me, then flew away. I wasn't able to identify what the crow got. I was very curious as to what caught that crow's eye, and I wondered how long it had sat in the tree and watched me, waiting for the right moment to swoop in and get whatever it was. Have you ever had anything taken from you by an animal? Were you able to recover it? What was taken? What animal took it?

1. raychill (3488) | 3 months ago | I've had many a sandwich go missing thanks to pet dogs. My cat doesn't usually steal my food though. So I don't deal with it anymore. The thing for me is that animals are so adorable that I can't handle being mad at them. so I'd be okay and you know, I don't need that food anyway!

3. drannhh (4431) | 3 months ago | Oh, yes, and the scariest time was when it was a big bird that swooped down and grabbed my hard-boiled egg right out of my hand just as I was going to take a bite. I guess it was a hawk. This was up into the hills behind our home, where I where I used to hike to get away from the books once in a while during the year that I spent writing my dissertation. I had only taken one egg and a few cubes of cheese, and when that bird took my egg, he left me mighty hungry. I had about 2 hours walk left to get home on an empty stomach!

Transdisc (12465) | 3 months ago | This really stinks for you, drannhh. I imagine that had something like that happened to me I would have been both scared to death, then curious about the whole thing. At least it didn't get your cheese.

|
|
drannhh (4431) | 3 months ago | No, but when that sharp-beaked fast diving bird came toward my face I wasn't sure what he was going to end up carrying off in his talons, so I jumped up in alarm and the cheese fell on the ground, where various six-legged critters were already climbing all over it before I had quite pulled myself together. I used to hike into the woods munching along from a bag lunch all the time growing up and truly I do not recall any critters making off with my food before. Lol, I lost my cheese, too! Funny how a thing like that sticks in one's mind.

4. Xdrowninghavocx (2207) | 3 months ago | The squirrel story is pretty funny. About ten years ago we had some stray cats that were looking for food. They wandered around our neighborhood and I was surprised that very few people were willing to help them. I counted at least three houses that had a bowl of cat food outside of their front doors. Problem was that groundhogs were also in the area and were beating the cats to the food. It was the strangest thing. And at that time we used to throw bread outside for these ducks that would migrate to our yard ever year. Except the ducks didn't get to it first because the cats were eating it. This happened for at least a year before the cats were finally taken in by animal rescue.

5. TheSpy (3399) | 3 months ago | Hi my new Pal: I have had monkeys take a lot of things from me. They go into my pockets and take out the food and anything shinny. Crows will eat anything and the buckey may have caught his eye. I'm sure he was waiting for you to turn away from the bucket. Have a great day. Ivor

A, poor headless bunny with all its innerds coming out through its neck. Pola, when I finally get my puppy, I will be sure to have a basket of many toys. I imagine I'll have free standing heads all over my house.

7. whimsystoryteller (692) | 3 months ago | Your first mistake was leaving anything red in sight. Animals are attracted to bright colors. I know because I sleep with earplugs, which are hot pink in color, and the other night while I slept, one of my kitty cats, climbed on top of me as I slept and pulled the earplug out of my ear and took off with it to play. She did this without waking me. I found it later next to the litter box. And, in regards to the pecans, you should never leave pecans or acorns within accessibility to a squirrel or chipmunk. They will take them every time. I wrote a children's story about a squirrel that got mad at the other animals in the forest for teasing him about his name and he gathered up all of the acorns and nuts he could find and used them to declare war. He started throwing the nuts at all of the animals below as if they were ammunition and would laugh nastily every time he let one go. Maybe the squirrels that took your pecans are planning a war on their fellow animals like my character, Herbert, did. Hee Hee Hee

9. carmelanirel (4618) | 3 months ago | Yes, a couple of times this has happened..One was these black walnuts I was leaving in the driveway until we could get the hard husk off..Before we could, I think every squirrel in the area was happy for the free meal.. Then, when my son was about 3, his Dad had brought home this stuffed duck that was like a puppet and when you squeezed the mouth open and shut, it would quack out, "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" (VERY ANNOYING) Now this is before we had a cat or dog and I really missed having an animal to care for. One day, while my husband was at work and my daughter was at school, my son and I were coming home from our neighbors house and this really cute dog have met us at the top of the road..This dog followed us home and was very friendly, so I let him in and leaving the door opened, I went to help my son with something and next thing I know, this dog took off with this duck..(Yay, shhh, don't say anything) Anyways, to this day, I am the Only person to know this happened and that the toy is gone..hehehe

Transdisc (12465) | 3 months ago | Heeheehee I wonder just how long that dog kept your house under surveillance as it plotted the best time to swipe that duck? I am convinced that you put up a valiant effort to save that poor, stuffed duck puppet. Well done. You should be commended and your husband should take you somewhere nice every year on the anniversary of this event to celebrate your bravery!!
