skimpy prom dress lands a 17 year old in hand cuffs |
| |
| I think this is very very bad of schools, and I think the 17 year old wanted to wear her custom made dress, and it went as far as to say she didn't have underwear on by a chaperone, but she did, ok, i wouldn't have worn the dress, but it was gutsy to her, even trying to pin up the dress to her wouldn't work, and they wouldn't let her in, I think there should be something that says that if school was going to pose this at the prom, they should have made this known that dress codes would apply. I've seen kids wear worse in life and it was her Senior Prom, I truly hope she got her money back. her only picture of prom night is a shot at the police station here options were go home, or go to jail, wonderful message the school sent. Do you think the school was right, this while a school function, was NOT on school grounds, and while http://www.cnn.com/video/... Mooch disclaimer, this is a video link, there is nothing here that I could even cut and paste so to the mylot detractors and trolls taht are following me around, saying I'm out of guidelines, And to those that say I am doing nothing but cutting and pasting I suggest you look at how many more discussions I respond to and not start. | | | | | |

| | In all honesty I really dont see what the big deal was..I mean yes it was skimmy BUT the girl was willing to compromise and wrap then pin it but STILL she wasnt allowed in..thats a bit extreme to me...I agree too that i really hope she DOES get her money back..as far as I'm concerned SHE SHOULD! She didnt get to attend the prom so why should they keep her money?!? | | | | | | |

| | I agree and disagree...where's the line for a reasonable reason to give a refund? The school forced her to not be able to attend because of her dress but what if the day before the prom she had been caught with a weapon and suspended and not allowed to attend? Both are violations of school policies but you certainly wouldn't want her to get a refund for the latter situation. | | | |

Then she wouldnt be allowed and no she shouldnt get a refund..its a different scenario to me though. You can't compromise when it comes to weapons and the safety of others...see what i'm saying... | | | |

| | Well I wouldn't have worn a dress like that because I don't even wear dresses but I think that the officials should have said something before the prom. She probably really wanted to go to her prom. | | | | | | |

| | Most prom dresses violate basic school dress codes anyway so that is a poor excuse. My high school dress code said nothing about prom dresses specifically but did prohibit spaghetti straps, strapless, halter, skirts shorter than 6 inches from mid knee, see through material, slits in skirts longer than (I don't remember the way they figured that one out), or heels higher than 3 inches, from being worn to school. Prom wear usually violates one or more of those rules. As for the girl's dress...I'm not going to say it was perfectly fine. No daughter of mine would walk out the door in something like that BUT she is not my daughter and if that's what she wanted to wear and her parents/guardians approved then it's not up to me to judge. The chaperone should have given her the opportunity to alter her dress to make it more appropriate...saying she lacked underwear was just stupid. Too me it sounds more like she went to jail for causing such a scene about it. In a way I understand...senior prom only happens once...but she could have given in and changed into something else rather than miss her prom altogether over a dress. | | | | | | |

| | I think also she might have had a plan B in affect... knowing that the dress was not really fitting for a prom.. if she got stopped, she could have changed and had a good time. | | | |

| | Exactly Oreo...she must have known her 'dress' was questionable at the very least so she should have prepared for that rather than miss the only senior prom she'll ever have. | | | |

| | i dont think it was that much of a big deal however the dress looked very corny or very off for the event , like to me she didnt even have the body for it or it was something not right about it ..either way the kids at the school would have probaly laughed at her or pick on her afterwards or she probaly would have looked back on this moment and say what the heck was i wearing ? | | | | | | |

| | I don't think they would have laughed. The guys wouldn't have anyway because she mostlikely would have had the skimpiest thing on at the whole prom. The girls on the other hand would have had some things to say I'm sure. Definitely if that dress got her attention from guys which i know it would have. | | | |

| | yeah of coruse the guys would love it , the girls would have talked about the dress and the girl badly like i think the people in charge of the party did her a favor like really the dress looks like two strings wraped around her chest and a mini skirt ...but they shouldve refunded her tho thats wrong ..and those tickets arent cheap at least like 50 bucks a pop | | | |

| | I think some common sense should have told her the dress was not appropriate for a prom. It's not much more than a ribbon going around her essentials.. and a train in the back... that being said.. I feel that the school should have given some kind of dress code for the prom. I mean kids will be kids and they will push the limits, they'll come wrapped in saran wrap if they thought of it... so rules have to be made before the prom night.. and if there is to be no skin showing, there needs to be some rules stating so. Maybe this will set a precedence.... and I do think she should be given her money back since there was no dress code stopping her from coming to the prom in that dress. | | | | | | |

| | "I mean kids will be kids and they will push the limits, they'll come wrapped in saran wrap if they thought of it" LOL...my senior prom had one guy in a tux made from duct tape and a girl (not his date) wearing several slips layered together as a dress...as in the undergarment ladies are supposed to wear under their dresses. | | | |

| | there was a flier shown in the video that clearly stated in bold print that attire would be checked at the entrance.. so this girl was well informed ahead of time before showing up in that get-up. she has no rights to any refund at all. | | | |

| | I am sorry but what the hell was that girls parents thinking here letting her out of the house wearing that? That is NOT appropriate Even though it was not on school property it was still a school sponsered function which means the school dress codes still apply What I would like to know is if that was explained to the students before or when tickets were purchased if it was then the school doesnt have to refund a dime of her money love your disclaimer BTW LOL minus please, thanks | | | | | | |

| | I do agree...but most prom dresses violate standard school dress codes already. What needs to be made clear is if the school had specific guidelines for prom wear. If they did and she violated it then she shouldn't get a refund. If they didn't though, they have no right to turn her away the night of because of a chaperone's judgement call. (here's a minus for your good response!) | | | |

| | I agree...what were her parents thinking to even allow her to wear that dress? If my daughter came to me and said "Gee Mom I want to wear a dress made my Stripper Mart", I don't know whether I'd laugh or cry. If there was a dress code and it was clearly stated, she should get no refund. Although tackiness is not a crime, ignoring rules does have consequences, if that is in fact what she did. That being said, when I was in school we had a guy dress like Prince with strategically cut out holes in the rear. Tacky? You betcha. Funny? Definitely! Did he get to stay...yep...after he changed into the tux he brought just in case. | | | |

| | i think the school ws justified in barring her entrance to the prom when the flier clearly stated that attire would be checked at the door before before admitance would be allowed. the girl either didnt bother to read it.. or decided she was going to do as she wished.. either way.. the school was only backing up what it said before hand that it would do. as far as her being arrested.. that wasnt for wearing the dress.. that was for the disturbance she caused by throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old when she didnt get her way and someone called the police to break it up to not allow the entire senior class prom being disrupted even further that it already had been. further more.. there is no way in hell idve allowed my high school aged daughter to parade around in that trash of a gold lame` stripper outfit, much less leave the house in it. and people wonder why 30 year old men are oggling 17 year old children.. if they werent running around dressed like 30 year old wh0res.. thered be less of it. | | | | | | |

| | Well the prom may not have been on school grounds and instead held at the Marriott ballroom, I took a look at that video and the dress she was wearing and sorry I do think that was out of line...I mean I thought it was a bit tacky to be honest...think there were a lot of better "gowns" she could have worn | | | | | | |

| | If the flyer that went out with the prom tickets stated that there was a dress code then she is highly in the wrong and doesn't deserve her money back. That dress.... well i won't even talk about the dress but I will say that her wrapping it around and pinning it doesn't put the dress back into dress code! All they wpuld have done is unpin it once she got inside. | | | | | | |
