danger game kids are playing |
|
http://www.chicagotribune... I have been trying to find out the specifics of this game, and not coming up with a lot outside of people getting seriously injured... But it seems that kids use cans that have a spray on them aereosol cans and a lighter then light them and throw them at each other....but I can't confirm that, and this has just recenlty sent a boy from Wisconsin sent a 14 year old boy to the hospital with severe burns over 1/4 of his body, the other boy was not injured. It seems that kids are finding new ways and I wonder if any of these ideas come from video games that kids play today. parents, do you know any kids who are playing this new dangerous game? What would you do if you find out others are playing it would you inform the parents? (yes I would) Mooch Disclaimer to my detractors this is a news article taken from the net, i could not find any information on the specifics of the blowtorch game the 'guess' is on several news articles of injuries reported from the game. Nothing was copy or pasted from the news article that I summed up.

2. foxyfire33 (4952) | 2 months ago | I know how it's done...and I'll PM you if you're that curious. It can be done with anything that is aerosol and flammable. I hadn't heard that it was actually a game...that is disturbing! I would definitely tell the parents if I caught kids doing it. That kind of 'game' could end very tragically...besides those playing it, they could catch nearby homes or woods on fire depending on where they 'played'.

3. Bionicman (344) | 2 months ago | We were doing that stuff in high school with deodorants and lighters but we didn't aimed it on each other. I agree it's dangerous and even more if the make some kind of game of it. I don't think it has to do anything with video games.

4. carolbee (3504) | 2 months ago | I tried to pull up the article but it seems the link has been removed or is no longer working. I don't know anyone who is playing this game. Our kids are too old to play this game and our grandkids are too young. I'd be absolutely livid if one of our kids was playing these kinds of games. Why teens have no fear is beyond me. I do think video games promote this type of violence and it could be where many of the teens get their information. I would inform other parents if I knew of a kid doing this sort of thing for grins. It's not my idea of a fun game. Whatever happened to playing board games or participating in a sport? This is what I did when younger and nobody was hurt. I've recently heard of kids in our area buying whipped cream in cans and sucking in the gas to get high. This can be so dangerous as well.

oneandonemakesix (23388) | 2 months ago | I'll post the whole article for you its a short and to the point. I still can't believe that kids are doing this.....i'm just not sure where they come up with ideas like this > Associated Press 6:58 AM CDT, May 12, 2008 MANITOWOC, Wis. - A 14-year-old boy suffered burns to more than a quarter of his body after playing what authorities describe as a blowtorch game. Manitowoc Fire Captain Mark Rusboldt says the boy and another teen were using spray cans as blowtorches. The 14-year-old was burned on his back, head, face, arms and hands. The other teen was not injured. The burned boy was hospitalized Saturday at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee< http://www.chicagotribune... there is the article to the link I posted, if you are responding from email the links don't work, I don't now why its not working..... its short and sweet. jrum68 (134) | 2 months ago | First off I have to say that I think you are taking the word "game" too literally. I think the cop was just explaining what these kids were doing and used the word "game" to describe the activity. I've never heard or anything like that, and I don't see how it could even be a game. Kids do dumb things like this all the time because they feel invincible. Kids feel invincible because they haven't expreienced life yet and know no real fear. We all felt that way once. It's part of youth. Secondly, and more to my point, I have to say that I think WAY too many people are blaming video games for violence. I am 28 years old. I grew up playing video games and I still love them. I have never, nor has anyone I've ever known been influenced by something I've seen in a game. That's ridiculous. Sure, there are stupid people who are extremely impressionable and will go out and reenact things they've seen, but this is rare and these types of people are inherently violent to begin with. I believe alot of older people blame games for violence because they have no interest in them, know very little about them, and need a scapegoat. They ask why kids don't play board games or go outside and play kick the can anymore. The answer is the same reason everyone uses cell phones now instead of rotary phones. As technology advances, so does they way people do things. If anyone disagrees with me, I ask you this: If you can blame video games for promoting violence, why don't you blame movies, television shows, history class, or pretty much anything else that portrays violence in the world? Violent movies have been around a long time. Violent plays in theatre have been around for thousands of years. Both of these portray violence much more graphicly than video games do. Something to think about.

5. ayumitakashi (1907) | 2 months ago | Well I've never heard of that game before but that is just really dangerous. I'm not a parent but I don't really know anyone who is playing that game around here. I have younger brother and sisters and I hope that nothing like that is happening in their school. Although if that was happening in their school my mom would know because we live right in front of the school that they go to. I hope that the little kid is okay and that after this he doesn't start playing that really dumb game again.

7. lovespecialangel (2215) | 2 months ago | Any game that is called "blowtorch game" has got to be dangerous. What are these kids thinking? If I knew of kids doing this, I would definitely let their parents know. And my kids don't want to even come close to trying me on this subject. They know better than to do anything dangerous like that. My question is this: where were the parents when all of this was going on and how did they get lighters?

8. angelwhispers30 (1312) | 2 months ago | I'd never even heard of this game before now, but it seems that kids are always coming up with new and dangerous games to play. I think a part of it is the opportunity to look 'cool' in front of their buddies. These are the dort of games that grow popular very quickly, and I'm almost certain that the chances of getting injured add to the thrill for some teens. If I found a kid playing this game, I would immediately report them to their parents. I would not like to find that my child had been injured playing a game like that. If I didn't know who their parents were, I would be calling the police directly to make a report. Dangerous games always end up in tears for someone.

| 9. sarkarraj (2) | 2 months ago | Mostly the kids will play these danger games away from parents, so one cant balm the parent for not watching. No one cant expect to watch 24hrs a day everytime. And in schools while playing, the authorities must make sure that there are some constant people who will watch out all the students about there activities.

10. Rozie37 (6090) | 2 months ago | I do not think that you should continue to do the disclaimers. The Mylot administrators should be the only ones that matter to you. If they do not have a problem with what you are doing, who cares about anyone else? There was a person before who left something at the end of all her post and I am sure that she was kicked off. As far as this thing wherethe paint is concerned, I am not sure, but this sounds like something a nut on Youtube would do. I hope that the children come to their senses about how seriously dangerous this is.
