Do you sit with the OLDIES?

I see my parents most days but they are not that old yet even though they are older than most parents as they had me when they were a little bit older than most of my friends parents at school.

My partner and I have no oldies in the family anymore Hiccup.
Our parents died early, in the 70's and 80's.
My mum was the last to die, only a few years ago.
Mum had 7 children, so it was an everyday occurance for us to be called by our siblings names.

Good topic, my friend, and one that's been weighing on me lately. I don't get to see my parents often and then I realize that I don't call nearly as often as I should, either.

Then when I do get to talk with them, I often end up feeling full of anxiety to hear about how things are changing, what new diagnoses there are, etc. I feel very selfish when that happens, but anxiety is very hard for me to deal with so it puts me in a terribly catch22.

I think it's wonderful that you talk with your Mom whether or not she thinks you're your brother at times. I'm sure on her good days, she appreciates it greatly! Not sure she's appreciate being called "The Oldie" though!

Oh, I miss those times. The only living grandparents that I have now is "nanay", my grandmother from my father's side and "lolo" my grandfather from my mother's side. My grandfather is in the ICU right now due to mild stroke. I am praying that he'll get better soon. I remember the last thing we talked about which is about having my own family and that was a few years ago. He said that people should be like birds. That builds a nest first before laying eggs.

I also remember how fun it is talking to my grandmother about courtship in her days.

I love to sit with my mom/grandmother, I am adopted. I love to hear the stories of how they made it through the depression, the coal mining, hauling water and the flour sack dresses. The stories of the one room school house and hauling coal and ashes in and out of the school. Getting up to do farmwork and gathering the eggs BEFORE school. The work after school also.
I think kids now a days need to go back in time, if only for a short time to be able to expirience this for themselves, so they can really understand what they have these days.

I helped to take care of my mother for about a year before she passed away, she was 90 ys old as well.. Dhe was having a very bad time with her memory and at least 10 times a day was looking for my dad.. Well, my dad passed away in 1963, so it was heartbreaking to hear her ask for him or want to know why he didn't come home??.. It was very hard on everyone but we did all that we could to keep her happy and not tell her over and over that our dad was gone.. We did shed quite a few tears, as this was the mother who loved and took care of us for so many years.. We do need to make sure that our seniors are well taken care of and loved as they loved us..

My mother is 83 and still sharp as a tack. She lives with me during her state's hurricane season so I get to have her for about 5 months of the year and we talk up a storm sometimes. I also go to see my dad and stepmother a few times a month, they live 30 miles from me, and we have a good time talking. They both have amazing stories of how it was 60-70 years ago and I enjoy being with them.

We can learn a lot from our old ones and should pay them more attention.

my mom never told to me ah....or wow...you are so stupid whem we were child.I think when they are become old it's the time for us togive them the best we can do for all they did for us when we were child

I do not live near most of my family! I try to visit with my elder friends whenever I can! I know they do get lonely!

oh, you made me miss my grandma and mom.
i always love to sit and talk with the oldies, i dont know but they give me happiness and i know they just need someone to talk to most of the time.
i can understand what you mean by some days it is as hard as pulling your teeth LOL
my mom will be 58 next month and she is already sounding like your mom, haha kidding aside she just likes a lot of attention and i have to make sure that i am giving her sometime coz i know she is all by herself and all her kids are far from her so i can understand the longing though sometimes she can be childish as she can be, oh well!
i have a neighbor who do the same stuff like your mom do to you, she is like 80Y/O then but i feel sorry for her coz she is treated like a trash.
that's why i told my husband if we can help someone in this world i would like it to be the old ones coz they seem to be the forgotten creature when they turn old and it just breaks my heart.
i have neighbors here that i smile and wave at whenever i see them outside.
anyway, i guess by now you get a better idea of what kind of person i am LOL
