what happens when we die? do our souls go to heaven right away?  |

|  People often misnterpret several key scriptures when trying to understand the truth about what happens at death, Jesus told one of the criminals being crucified next to Him: "Assuredly I say to you, today you will b ewith Me in Paradise" Luke 23:43.
Does this mean Jesus and the criminal went to heaven togehter that day? It cannot! Why?
Christ plainly taught that He would spend THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS in the grave-He called this "the sign of the prophet Johna" Matthew 12:39-40.
If Jesus and that criminal went to heaven on the day of the crucifixion, Jesus did not fulfill the sign He had promised! What, then, did Jesus mean? The Bible's Greek language lacks the punctuation we expect in English text. Translators have imposed their doctrinal misunderstandinds on the plain Greek text.. Indeed, Jesus told the criminal that he would be with Him in His realm, but the world "today" refers not to "Paradise" but rather to "I tell you." Jesus was assuring this criminal of his future hope, not denying the sigh of His Messiahship.
In the New Testament, we read that God called ancient King David "a man after My own heart" Acts 13:22. David is counted among the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11. Yet the Apostle Peter said this about David: "Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day" Acts 2:29. He went on to emphasize:"David did not ascend into the heavens (v34).
We read: "NO ONE has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven" John 3:13. Does this mean that others have ascended to heaven after Him? No!
The dead are now unconscious, and will remain so until God restores them to conscious, and will remain so until God restores them to consciousness, when "those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt" Daniel 12:2
Only Jesus Christ has ascended to heaven.
When the Apostle Paul wrote 2 Corinthians, he still expected Christ to return during his lifetime. This is why he wrote, "For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven." 2 Corinthians 5:2. Paul eagerly anticipated receiving the Spirt-composed body Christ would give him at Christ's return.
It is in this context that Paul wrote of his longing. He did not write, as some mistakenly assume, that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Rather, anticipating his change from matter to spirit, he wrote that he would be "well pleased rahter to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord" v.8
Paul eventually understood that Christ's return would be later than he had at first assumed, since it had to occur only after certain prophesied events had taken place 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12. But he never wavered from his understanding of what happens at death. Paul wrote: "but I do not want you to be ignorant, bretheren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus." 1 Thessalonaians 4:13-14.
This "sleep" is not some mystical kind of semi-consciousness. Jesus, who died, described His death this way: "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights int he heart of the earth" Matthew 12:40
Is heaven the "heart of the earht"? No!
When one dies, as the psalmist tells us: "His spirit departs, he returns to his earht: in that very day his plans perish" Psalm 146:4.
Jesus made no plans when He was dead. Neither will we. The dead are not waiting around as disembodied consciousnesses in heaven. They are uncounsious Ecclesiastes 9:5, and will remain so until God raises them.
The Bible talks about the ressurection of the dead. So to be ressurected, we have to be dead as Jesus was ressurected from the dead and as Lazarus was ressurected from the dead. So will all those who are at this moment dead.

| |  I am not 100% sure what happens to our souls after we die (who is?) but I do believe that hell is used too often to intimidate us into being "good" and staying "in line."
In my beliefs we either go to Heaven, or we come back and live another life on earth, depending on our lives before. Perhaps a murderer might come back to earth as a murder victim, so that that person may know how it feels to be on he other end of the bad deeds s/he committed in a past life.

| | Well, if you read carefully and take the Bible and go read the references I wrote, you will see that you don't come back as anything.
Once you are dead you are asleep until God will ressurect you and then you will be judged if you are to continue to live or not in His Kingdom that He will establish forever and we will never ever suffer again.

| |  Thank you for the beautiful explanation of the scriptures. This is a very tricky question because we are told that the dead will arise on judgement day and at the same time we hear of stories where some people who have had near death experiences seeing the light which leads to heaven. I'd like to believe that it will be on judgement day but yet I'm not so sure after hearing NDE stories.

| | Your welcome, well we hear stories, but they had near death experience..THEY DIDN'T DIE..and they by their stories didn't go to be judged.
I had a near death experience my self and when I re-entered my body the doctor said, my God we thought that you were leaving us.
When Lazarus was risen fromt he dead. He never told anyone of anything when he was dead.
Who knows what happens when we have near death experience, if it is just our brain that is playing tricks on us as millions of people nearly die and come back and experienced nothing.
In mine I met God and Jesus in which I asked to live for as long as my kids needed me and then I was willing to die and was told because I didn't ask anything for myself I would be sent back. When I came back from what everyone thought I was dying..I said ..oh I must still be in heaven because my bed is surrounded by angels. No one paid attention to what I said and I forgot all about it. I only remembered it 5yrs ago when watching tv about people having near death experience and mostly all have the same, the light, people they no etc. No one I have heard so far have met Jesus and God together.
Did I really meet them? Was it just something happening in my brain at that time? I don't really know.
I have die another time a few moments when I had my second child and nothing happened. All I heard was the nurse saying..oh my God her heart is stopping.. then I died and they brought me back and nothing had happened. When I came back I hadn't seen anything or went anywhere.
Nothing in the Bible relates any experiences like that. Jesus never talked about His 3 days being dead or what he experienced and if anyone should have experienced out of body would surely be Him!
No matter what anyway..we will all be in front of Him on judgement day. So far all the prophesies have been realized without fail. And we are in the sixth trumpet..look at all that is happening..exactly like it is written. Disasters one after another and people are dying by the millions now..floods, tornados, cylcones, etc are one after another and that is nothing yet..wait until the waters are going to be touched and thousands of people on their fishing boats will die and no more fish we will be able to get cause they will be dead. Our drinking water is already threatened and there will be a famine world wide like never seen before..yet people are not paying attention and people are laughing just like they did in Noah's time when he built the ark.
God said there will be a judgement day..there will be one. He can't lie and He does carry out everything He says will happen if Man doesn't listen.

God is our father besides our physical one because it takes one to make a human being but God is the one who made Mary pregnant to have HIS son..who was born as a man..so the Son of Man's father is GOD because HE is the one who Fathered Him, not in a physical sense of course.
Since Jesus is our saviour and the Son of God, since He was born in a human body but by God ..he is the Son of Man because He died for the sin of Man.

He is the Son of God even though he was not inseminated with a sperm. He is like a Son to Mankind..
Often we will talk about MAN, we are not talking about a particular person..when we talk about MAN it includes both sexes..man and woman.
He was born as the Son of God -as the Son of God he gave his life for MAN..(MANKIND) since he is the Son of God he is also the Son of MAN (MANKIND).

| |  I think heaven and hell exist here on earth itself. If you do good, you will get good, if you do bad, you will get bad.
I don't think a God will have have human attributes of vengeance , or punishment to have humans toe his line. He would not have given man free will otherwise. And as the saying goes, prevention is better than cure, why then does he not prevent the bad from happening.
I still say do your duty, without transgressing or harming others, and do it honestly and to the best of your ability and you will ultimately gain the reward for your efforts.
Life is too short, do good and you will get good, do bad and you will have a bad end. Leave God's wishes to him, try not to guess what he has in store for you, you can't even guess what is going on in your own loved one's mind, how then can you guess what is going on his?

Anyone can verify that number in the the Bible. Of course it is understandable that when Jesus said to the thief that he would be with Him in paradise it didn't mean immediately as Jesus was buried for 3 days and rose on the 3rd day, so Jesus didn't say paradise now but meant later that he would be ressurected and be in paradise on earth and that he would be with Jesus..on earth not in heaven.

| | You are wrong by calling him a dead expert. NO ONE IS..he is quoting from the Bible and we cannot personally have our own ideas because then it would not concord with God's.
We quote many people in life who have left a mark. So he is quoting the Bible and saying it as it is written and not of his own thinking because then it would not be as God thinks. To be one with God is to think as He does.
Example: In sports..there is a coach who gives directions to his team to do EXACTLY as he says ..if one doesn't..then that person messes up the chance to win..if he thinks other than what the coaches says to do..there is more of a chance for them to lose.
Same thing with God, He is our coach and knows much better than we do what is going to happen if we don't listen to Him.
God is the expert! We are His team! So, whatever He says we must do! Otherwise, we will have more of a chance to lose than to win. | | | |
