what does OWWA do?  | |  Why is it mandatory to be a member of it once you work as OFW? Wouldn't you think it would be better if it's voluntary instead? Not everyone appreciates this program, I for one don't understand what is it for. Why for first time overseas worker they have to impose such memberships, are they really fixed to the thought that we will be like that forever? Why this endless insurance programs, when we have too many to pay like philhealth, pag-ibig, and SSS?

| femmefatale_moi (43) | 3 months ago |  first of all you need it to be able to fly because they will be looking for that piece of paper in the airport and you don't want anymore trouble when you are there since you said it's your first time...
luckily i did not need their help when i first left home but i have an aunt how did... she went to israel, desperate to fly to feed her family she carried on even if she wasn't feeling well... in short she caught pneumonia and died in jerusalem after 5 days... OWWA was a great help to her family to be able to send her body back to the philippines minus all the expenses...
but it might vary depending on the country you are in... we recently had a collegue who was diagnosed w/ cancer when the drs. here washed their hands on her... she decided she wanted to die in the Philippines... knowing my aunt's case i suggested we call OWWA in mainland england... and they are not very helpful, we were told to call the embassy ...
i give all the praises and thanks first of all to God because HE helped us through it and guided us where to go... we were guided to go to our local DSHH and they paid for everything, she got home alive on a tues and die the day after... God rest her soul but atleast her last wishes were granted.

They were the ones who processed my membership for OWWA, seems like it's mandatory, they didn't tell, and I don't know either what really is it for, all these memberships feels like additional expenses for me. I was asked 900 pesos membership fee and I got a IC card I don't know how to use. | |

Sometimes they can't immediately make a move if there is a problem arise with regards to OFW. much better if they make it optional than compulsory.
