Unnecessary Organ Removal email this discussion to a friend?

I wanted to bring this subject up, as I never saw this addressed here.

When a doctor says you need an organ removed, PLEASE get a second opinion! I wish I had done that!

When I had gallbladder problems, I was told it had to be removed. I was in so much pain, I didn't even THINK to get a second opinion. I should have. Or I should have let my husband get in on this. I didn't.

If I would have gotten a second opinion, I probably would have been offered the option of them using a laser and just blasting the gall stones to pieces, leaving the gallbladder intact.

Instead it was surgically removed and that was the worst mistake of my life. Granted, the pain I was having was stopped by this surgery. It also introduced a whole NEW set of problems.

My digestion is so messed up now, it's unbelievable. The only time it is even slightly normal is when I take carb blockers and EFA's (essential fatty acids).

I just wanted to make sure everyone remembered there IS an option to surgery and to ALWAYS get a second opinion regarding organ removal. Make sure you Significant Other knows about this as well. Then, when they have to take you to doctor's visits and you forget to ask, they will think of it.

Have you had unnecessary organ removal?
Have you gotten a second opinion that saved you from having something removed? Offered you another option?
Have you ever thought of this before? I know I hadn't...until it happened to me.

I dont think anyone has brought this up in an actual discussion here
Second opinions are very important
I would also like to add to this by saying once you are certain that you do require surgery PLEASE research the doctor that will be performing the procedure
I had a partial hysterectomy done by a doctor that I later found out was being investigated by the medical board and had many lawsuits filed against him
Scarey stuff let me tell you

minus me please, thanks

I didn't know that they could remove gall stones like that. I had mine removed as well but it was about 6 years ago. Were they able to do it like that then or is this new technology? I know the pain you were in. It was so painfull it made it hard to breath. I went for a year thinking that it was just gas. Till finally I decided that it had to be something else. And it was. I had numerous stones is what they said and had to have mine removed.

I'm pretty sure they could blast the stones back then. That's about when I had mine removed.

I worked at a doctor's office when mine started acting up. He knew what tests to send me for after finding out my symptoms and when it really started hurting.

Yeah I would probably have less problems if I still had my gall bladder but I am happy that my scars are very small.
