Jim Croce and Dan Fogelberg  

You must have seen my post earlier that these were 2 of my favorite artists. : )

Time in a Bottle(Jim Croce) is one of my favorite songs, as is Leader of the Band(Dan Fogelberg).

I also love the Eagles, my favorite song by them is Take is Easy. You are right, not many of the new artists(none that I can think of, but there has got to be one) evokes the same feeling as the ones from the 50s-70s. I did not grow up listening to that music on the radio, but my parents did. I loved listening to "oldies" even when I was a kid. The Beach Boys were one of my favorite artists, and still are.

To answer your question(or not, really), I will be checking back here for recommendations as well. Nelly doesn't exactly invoke the same feeling as say, Simon and Garfunkel does it? : )

I can't say that I have heard of either musician that you first mentioned. "Vincent" however is one of my favourite songs. I remember first hearing it when I was a child and even back then it moved my soul in a way few songs ever have. I feel so many different emotions when I hear that song. It is imprinted in my brain's radio so I can play it at will1

I don't have any recommendations for new alternatives. Partly because I question whether modern musicians have created an equivalent and partly because I am too busy listening to old stuff to know what its out there!

Jim Croce what a singer! I love to hear him sing. I keep one of his cds in my car at all times. Though I must say Time in a Bottle is not one of my favorite songs he sings but over all love him! Dan Fogelberg I haven't never heard of him and all I can think of when I think of Don Mclean is didn't he sing the original version of American Pie? I do love Jim Croce though!

Yes ... I love Jim Croce. He was only 30 when he died. I lived in San Diego and used to go his wife's restaurant in the gaslamp quarter all the time. Really cool.

Jim Croce, pronounced (CROW-chee) (January 10, 1943 –September 20, 1973) scored a handful of hit songs in the early '70s, but died in an airplane crash just as he was beginning to capitalize on his success. In 1985, Ingrid Croce opened "Croce's Restaurant & Jazz Bar", located in the historic Gaslamp District in San Diego, California, as a tribute to her late husband. In 1990, Croce was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
