The Rules of the Road Off Road? |
| |
| Friday I was nearly run over and maimed or killed by a woman who was quite negligent in her operation of the scooter she was riding in Wal*Mart!! I couldn't believe that, despite my best efforts to dodge her, this woman seemed intent on running me down! She had no regard whatsoever for the rules of the road and just drove willy nilly all over the place with no care for the safety of others. Has something similar ever happened to you? Are you more likely to run down someone in the grocery store, or to be run down by someone? Do you follow the rules of the road when you are shopping (by walking or driving one of those scooters on a certain side of the aisle) or do you regard the aisles as a free for all time in which others need to beware of your actions and take care to protect themselves? | | | | | |

| | You have just clarified the reason I do not ever go to Wal-Mart!! It's a dang madhouse in that place! People will mow you down with no regard for whether or not you are alive when they are done. The customers are this way and the people that work there are no better, IMO. Ugh...the thought of Wal-Mart makes me cringe, and that is one of the many reasons!! I am very respectful of the rules of the grocery store road. I hate it when people don't pay attention to where they are going with their carts and scooters. I would never get a traffic ticket in a store, but put me on the real road, and that is another story all together. | | | | | | |

| | "People will mow you down with no regard for whether or not you are alive when they are done." It isn't only the customers, it's the employees too D. I can say that if I have to sacrific my time and go into this store, I'll do it only during the "busy" hours or with another person. It's not only dangerous from the cart perspectives, it's not safe at night either. NOPE, I hate walmart, can't stand them. | | | |

| | oh...its the pickup truck syndrome. they think they own the isles because they are riding something motorized. very nice. yeah ive had that happen too. i think its the pedestrians that should have the right of way. *scratches muzzle* hmm...perhaps places should start paining crosswalks on the floor and installing traffic lights. kidding. seriously if your gonna use the motorized carts then you should show consideration for the people around you. | | | | | | |

| | I know you're kidding about traffic signals in the store, Palmerhusky, but that's actually a good idea. Some of the aisles are wider than some of the roads around here anyway. | | | |

| | Aww the poor scared bear almost run down at Walmart. You will have to forgive me but i can not stop laughing. Can not remember a time tha something like that has ever happened to me and I do not use any type of scooters so I could not be to blame for trying to run someone down. I have hurt a few people though. Many times I am left with no other choice but to climb shelves to get something that I want to buy because I just can not reach it any other way. There have been a number of times tha the same person ends up behind me in different aisles and get bonked in the head because things drop as I am climbing. You would think that they would either not stand so close or offer to help but they don't so I figure it is someone up above telling them to show some manners. | | | | | | |

| | hello transdisc oh my gosh! i am so sorry to hear that somebody tried to run over you, on their scooter, while you were in the store like that shopping! how rude is very correct. and i think that somebody has hit the back of my heel's before while i have been standing in line somewhere. and in the summertime, when i have been wearing my sandles, somebody has run over the top of one of my toes before. lol you know? what do other people think that like? like the lady that was behind me in line somewhere that pushed her cart into the back of my feet? do they do that so see what kind of a person that you are? lol do you know what i mean? lol like oh, i am going to push somebody with my cart and see what kind of an expression that i get from them. lol you know? well stay safe in the stores. have a beautiful afternoon. | | | | | | |

| | Well, if she had hit you, you would have had grounds to sue her. It doesn't matter if she is in a grocery store or any place else, when someone is driving something, car or scooter or whatever, they have an obligation to use reasonable caution because if they drive carelessly and someone is injured, they can be held liable for their actions whether they intended to hurt someone or not. I do follow the rules of the road in the stores simply because it makes the most sense. I have frequently encountered people who don't and I tend to get annoyed with them. I do think it's smart to be aware that there are nuts out there like this woman who act like they are the only ones in the world and don't pay attention to what they are doing. That goes for the road and in stores. Since my job is dealing with car accidents every day, I'm pretty aware of what goes on out there. | | | | | | |

| | Hello Transdisc!:-) I am sorry that you were about to be run over by a careless woman. I am trying to make a mental image of the situation to figure the details about the incident. Some images are funny and some are freaky. Dodging part is what makes these situations sometimes funny. I haven't seen scooters here, or perhaps I am not thinking about the same thing. Here they have semi automatic machines to carry and transfer crates and such but the person walks while he/she operates it. And, they don't automatically assume that people will give way to them, they usually utter excusez-moi (excuse me, formal) or pardon, while they move around, to get attention of customers. I have seen some employees on roller skates though. As a general rule, whether one is on road or off-road, the other person comes first, always. So, there are not many incidents even when the supermarket is very crowded, it (others first) does slow down the whole process though, as sometimes each one of the two, involved in confusion, is asking other to go first. I walk fast and when I came here , there were few times when I was about to run down someone taking fast turn from one aisle to another from a side, but now I take turn walking in center, so there aren't many surprises for others now!:-) | | | | | | |

| | Hello kamran :) Here in the USA, many of our larger stores have little scooters for their customers. They are electric and function much as an electric wheelchair, but don't look like a wheelchair at all, but like a little scooter. Anyone who walks in the door can comandeer one of these things. | | | |

| | This is just downright despicable Trans. How could some rotten person want to run over our Sacred Bear. I hope your hair has not turned grey from this near tragic incident. I think maybe before venturing into walmart again, you had better don some protective gear. Some Gridiron gear should protect you fairly well. Did you need to take a valium after arriving home. That was a close shave indeed. | | | | | | |
