Do you have a pet turtle? Or do you want one? |
|
I once had a pet turtle. I dunno what kind of turtle mine was, but it's a small green one. It was given by my cousin and I enjoyed taking care of it. It lasted for only a few weeks I guess because of too much care I've rendered.=( Hmm... Or maybe during that time, I was just not knowledgeable enough in taking care of a turtle. What I did was I wrapped my turtle in a piece of cloth and I bring it with me wherever I go. Just like when you fold a hanky, placing the turtle inside. Yes, I later on realized that it can't breath enough. I'm just wondering why my cousin's turtle didn't die even if she wrapped it the same way as I did. Anyway, I'm just wondering who else have a pet turtle? Do you care for it like you care for dogs/cats? Or maybe just left it in some place like a pond or a bowl/aquarium?

1. laydee (1517) | 4 months ago | Hi. We do have pet turtles, actually two of them. They were given to my younger brother when he was around three years old. Now he's 23 and we still have them. They were once small but now they're huge! hehe.. Ours are snapping turtles with red lines behind their eyes. I guess your turtle couldn't take the stress and all from being petted too much. Sometimes it's better to just let them live freely. We put them in our man-made pond. They've lived there all their lives. Hope someday your pets would survive.:)

nrtan2000 (158) | 4 months ago | Oh, maybe mine was also a snapping turtle because there's a red line behind the eyes, too.=) Yes, I know. hehe.. Sometimes i find it sad and at the same time amusing whenever I think of how I cared for my turtle. I hope so, too. For now, excluding the pets my family have, I have my own pet in my mobile. Well, only in my mobile. haha. But, I also felt so bad when it died last week. The good thing is, i can reset it. So, now I have a new pet. Again.=)

jewilim (205) | 3 months ago | Why of all pets you would prefer having a turtle? I think turtles don't interact very much with people. I mean if you copare a dog to a turlte, you could really observe how the dog would interact with people. Unlike if you have a turtle, it would just sit there and stay put or walk a little. hehe:) I think its better not to have a pet so that you won't be sad because you won't worry about yor pet dying someday. hehe:P

nrtan2000 (158) | 3 months ago | Hmm... Why do you hate turtles?:P hehe. It's just that they're so easy to take care of and I find them cute (especially when they're still small).=) I know dogs are also nice. I love dogs, too.

2. Phaedra_Scythe (1362) | 4 months ago | I think they're so cute, I'd love one. I'd also love a pet tortoise. My grandmother had one when I was a child. They live for so long! He was called Joey and was rescued by my great grandmother. She found him in a park when some boys were throwing stones at him and she chased them away and took Joey home. They didn't know how old he was when she found him, but he outlived her. One year he just didn't come out of hibernation. He had a great life with my family. I really loved him. I want one of my own, but they're so expensive because it's illegal to bring them into the country.

nrtan2000 (158) | 4 months ago | Thank you for sharing your story, it's really nice.=) I guess Joey is already considered a part of your family already. Tortoise is the big one, right? I heard it, too, that it's illegal to bring it home and make it as your pet. But then, I think it's really a nice experience to have one.=) hehe.

3. wilo2001 (341) | 4 months ago | I did have one but it was a long time ago. I bought it near my school and then I put it on my backyard. It was living for a long time. I think it was for almost 10 years.

nrtan2000 (158) | 4 months ago | Yea, a relative of mine also placed a pet turtle on a place where it can freely move and go anywhere. Well, I learned my lesson after my pet died. Thanks for your response.=)

4. kbourgerie (1629) | 4 months ago | Yes, actually we do have a turtle. Its a red snapper that my son and boyfriend caught while they were fishing. We have it in an aquarium, but realize that soon we are going to have to buy something bigger because the turtle is growing quite rapidly. Its a cute little thing and very interactive with humans.

nrtan2000 (158) | 4 months ago | Hehe yea, I think turtles grow big faster than man.:) WHat do you mean very interactive? Do they interact to people like dogs/cats do?:) Thanks for your response.

| 5. ash2097 (21) | 4 months ago | I had four red eared turtles along time ago... I place them in a man made pond full of fishes... they grew quite big and heavy but the sad thing was I accidentally killed them because at that time I was washing the pond and I placed them in a cage inside the pond and left them there for the night unfortunately that night there was a heavy rain storm by morning i found them dead(drown)... they could have worth me around a few hundreds

nrtan2000 (158) | 3 months ago | SOrry to hear that. So don't you have any plans of buying another? Ohh yea, caring for turtles are real costly. When I still have my 2 turtles, I have to buy them food like 500 pesos for a size of 300ml and they'll be able to consume it in just 3-4 weeks. But it's worth it, I love them much. hehe
