Out of a cast and into a boot |
|
I have to say right now that I was never so glad to get out of that cast, and I was counting the days down until it came off now they have me in a boot, brace that is about the size of the cast and it can come off, and they say its healing nicely, and I'm allowed to walk on it, not supposed to drive yet, but right now even though I am on the couch I have the brace/boot on, as my foot is throbbing, the first thing I did after that cast came off is went after the itches I 've been having, and there were some areas so raw that they actually started bleeding but on my foot, I could just take the skin and peel it off in large chunks, my girls thought it was gross, But its so good to be out of the cast, even though I posted about getting clean that was more important than anything else. Mooch

1. carmelanirel (4660) | 4 months ago | Oh that sounds painful..Since you are allowed to get your foot wet now, you should soak it in an oatmeal bath..Either get Aveano or ground up your own oatmeal in a food processor..Add it to water and soak your foot, it should take care of the itchy s without having to scratch them up like that..

2. foxyfire33 (5573) | 4 months ago | I remember when my oldest daughter had to have a cast on her arm. She had broken it just above her elbow so the cast went from her hand to midway up the upper part of her arm. After 5 weeks she got to have it off and her left arm was noticeably smaller, her skin was all discolored and flaky, it seemed like it took days to get her little hand actually clean. Ugh, I hope I never have to deal with that again. I imagine a cast on a foot would be much worse than one on the arm...elbows don't exactly sweat, ya know! I'm glad you have it off too, I have no idea how you've managed for the past ...however long it's been, seems like a month or so but probably felt like a lot longer to you.

3. lilybug (7862) | 4 months ago | It sounds like it is still pretty painful. How long until you get to take the boot off for good and walk around again? I can't even imagine how you must be feeling right now. I really hope the itching gets better. Maybe the doctor can give you something to help speed up the healing of the raw skin.

4. IlsaVunes (584) | 4 months ago | It must be such a relief to get it off. I had to wear a stiff neck brace last year for four months, I was really happy when I got to chuck that thing in the garbage! At least you didn't have to wear it through the heat of summer, that would have been really yucky.

5. dragonfly242 (857) | 4 months ago | That's good news Mooch. Boy those dreaded itches, does your leg look smaller than the other? i just asked because my good arm looked twice the size of the broken one for a few weeks. Just take it easy and dont try to walk on it to much at least for a few days.

8. whiteheron (912) | 4 months ago | Congratulations on being in the boot and having more freedom! To deal with the discomfort of it, you might want to try a little bit of visualization paired with relaxation... Relax a little. Picture the pain as being a color, size and geometric shape. Focus on that image until you really can see it clearly. Then breathe deeply in and out and in and out. Shift the image to that of another color, size and shape. Play around with it and you might find one image, color and shaped that takes away or at least reduces the discomfort. You can also in your mind develop a magic lotion that if applied directly to your leg numbs the area a bit, soothing the pain and healing the leg in all areas of it. See yourself applying this lotion to the leg and feel that healing soothing feeling... These may help you a bit.... Good luck to you. Sorry that you got hurt in the first place but glad that you are healing nicely.

I bet it was so nice to be able to scratch the areas that have been itching. Now you will be able to bathe and scratch all you want, LOL.

10. mummymo (10500) | 4 months ago | I am so pleased that you got it off Mooch - I was worried this morning how you would react if they put a replacement cast on! I hope the pain doesn't last long sweetie and so glad that you could get to those itches! I am sure your bleeding and skinned bits will heal quickly, I think I would have pulled every bit of skin off my feet just to gross the kids out more! lol xxx
