She fell asleep, now what do I do? |
|
My daughter is 2 and potty training. During the day she never wears a diaper and doesn't normally nap. She does wear a diaper at night still and has no control yet when she sleeps. Well she had a tough night last night and was tired today. She went off and fell asleep on her bed, so now do I try to get that diaper on her without waking her or do I worry about a mess to clean later? If I do wake her, than she wont need a diaper anymore.

1. liquorice (1751) | 2 years ago | We're going to start potty training our two-year old too. Well done for coming this far! Once our daughter's asleep she's pretty out of it for at least the first few hours, so on the odd occasion I've managed to do things like get her into her night clothes and change her nappy if necessary, and she generally doesn't wake up. If your daughter's the same then you could try to just change her while she's sleeping. Alternatively you could put a towel under her in case she does make a mess. Good luck!

miesse (355) | 2 years ago | She's a very light sleeper. She wakes normally when you open her door, but she's very tired so she probably wont wake for a towel. Thanks for the idea.

2. tinkerick (1009) | 2 years ago | I'd leave her. Maybe put a towel under her. But otherwise just let her be. She might be ok.

3. saundyl (4331) | 2 years ago | My cousin is potty training her daughter as well. She went to a home care supply store and got those plastic backed sheets for on couches and chairs that they use in special care homes to protect the furniture. She slips them under her daughter if she falls asleep with out a diaper on rather than waking her to put it on. Then the bed or furniture is still protected.

4. patgalca (6035) | 2 years ago | My younger daughter wore a diaper to bed until she was six years old!!! We tried everything. We limited her liquids after dinner and we woke her up before we went to bed and got her to go to the bathroom. That is what you should be doing, waking her up to go to the bathroom.
My daughter was pretty lazy when it came to potty training so I wouldn't say that our methods, the most recommended methods, were not good methods. She wouldn't go to the bathroom at school and would come home all wet. She'd be playing outside and run into the house too late and miss the toilet. She would even have a bath, put her jammies and a diaper on but it wasn't bedtime, yet she would wet the diaper knowing she was wearing it instead of going to the bathroom. She was lazy with a capital "L".
I wouldn't worry about waking your daughter up to put the diaper on. I think you should wake her up and take her to the bathroom.

5. lilybug (15330) | 2 years ago | I would leave her to take her nap. I would just pay attention to when she starts to stir and get her up as soon as she wakes up and get her to the potty.
Ok, well you posted this 18 hours ago, so it does not really matter much now I guess. What did you end up doing? Did she stay dry?
