### Can you TELL good FISH from BAD fish? ###  

After finishing my latest writing assignment, I'm not keen on fish. 16,000 words on the subject of Sushi! Blech!!! My stomach is still turning and I can hardly bear the thought of fish! But thanks for the info!

I rarely buy fish. I live on a lake and just go fishing whenever I want fish. I don't always catch anything, but usually I do. I know about the warning signs of bad fish. Thank you for posting it here, though, because it might just help some people.

When I clean the fish, the guts and scales go right into the garden. They add a lot to the soil, and are especially good for corn.

As for Omega-3, I usually just open a can of tuna fish. LOL

I purchase fish at times and always look to see how the fish is... If the fish smells bad, I leave it there. If it is slimy looking likewise.

I just heard about Chinese markets and how people in some of them only purchase fresh fish... meaning fish that is actually swimming. It was amazing to me. I am not sure that I would eat fish at all if I saw it swimming. I would not want to have it killed.

The system where I live. I purchase fish from a local grocery store or supermarket. It is fish that has been caught a while ago and it is lying on top of some white plastic material which is resting in a blue sterofoam container. The blue rectangular container has clear plastic wrap over it and there is on top of that wrap purchase before date and the weight of the fish label.

I normally purchase fish that is boneless, skinless and headless as I do not want to be charged for what I am not going to be able to eat. I like filets and steaks best. I rarely get them though and instead get canned and pouched tuna or canned salmon as it is less expensive sometimes than the fresh fish is.

I love fresh fish. I have even met quite a few frozen fish I liked, and then there is less likelihood of it getting too old and smelling like fish. Wild caught has more Omega3. Where is the link you were going to share with us?

There was a time when I didn't eat that much fish because of the "mercury" scare. The past few years I've decided that I haven't "heard" that much about mercury anymore and that I'd rather have the health benefits of the fish and just take a chance it will also help protect me against the mercury. Fish is also a very good source of protein and is very good for you. Sometimes when I'm out for the day and need to get lunch out I will often stop at a fish mongers and order a bun with mackeral on it. But I always look at the fish they have on display first to see if their wares are fresh. If not I'll get lunch someplace else!

I wouldn't know a good fish from a bad fish, but I think my nose and eyes would recognise the difference. It's not something I'm very experienced at, as I don't normally eat fish. I do cook it for the kids occassionally, but hubby would normally buy it.
