Walmart checking melon shipments atter Scorpion sting in W.V  

I learned of this today. I can't believe this happened in my wonderful home state. If that happened, I wouldn't go back there to shop anymore either. I'm sure they probably can't find everything little thing that just happens to stow away in shipments of products. Ideally, it'd be wonderful if we didn't have to import so much of our products anyway but sadly we can't avoid it. Stores just need to really check what they get in.

well i will still stop in at Wal-Mart here in my area but i do not get to Wal-Mart that often at all. and that is just awful to get stung like that by a scorpion while in Wal-Mart. that could happen in any store, just not in Wal-Mart. melons are shipped like that to everywhere, not just Wal-Mart. so the stupid spider decided to take him a free ride on the crate with the melons and he wound up at Wal-Mart. lol but it is too bad that that little girl got bit by the spider in the first place and i am glad to hear that she is going to be ok from it as well.

I would continue to shop at that store. The scorpion was probably shipped in with the melons. If myself, my child or grandchild got stung by a scorpion I would for sure let the manager know and let them pay for the doctor bill and have them be sure to check the display for more of them and to make sure the one was dead that did do the stinging.
I remember one time my cousin and her husband built a new home and she said that scorpions kept getting in their house but that didn't stop us from going to visit her.

That's terrible! If my child got stung I would seek medical treatment and of course let Wally World know about it. I think they should be totally responsible for the bill.

This will have to be a bad mark for Wal Mart. This is the first time this as happen and they will have to make sure that they take care of the matter. Wal Mart is a big store chain and they are all over the US. They will have to check things better to make sure that something like this doesn't happen again.

I would have probaly freaked out! I know Walmart would be paying the hospital bill for sure! This could have happened to any store though. I am glad to hear that the little girl will be alright. I suppose she will have a fear of the produce section now though.

This can happen anywhere, Wal Mart, Aldis, Kroger, you name it. We just take food safety for granted. Another thing that is particularly prevalent is black widow spiders in grapes.

I think this could happen in any store where produce comes in. I don't think big stores have time to inspect every single piece of fruit that are in their aisles. Accidents happen, and if it happened to my child, I would take them to the hospital to make sure they're ok. Otherwise, I don't think the store was negligent at all.

Honestly it is not surprising that this might occasionally happen. And It can happen in any store. I brought home a bag of potatoes from Kroger once that roaches ran out of. It happens. Produce is a product of the land and shipped straight from the farms, any kind of critter can get int here and hitch a ride.

my first concert would be to get medical help then no
way would I shop there again. scorpions are known to
hide in fruit. My mom was washing out canning jars
in preparation for canning when she was stung by
a scorpion that was in the jar. my dad who was the town
doctor had her soak her hand in a solution of potassium
permanganate and that stopped the pain and sucked the
poison out . we figured the scorpion had come in a large
bunch of bananas that were hung in the basement as they were
still green.Stores are just going to have to be much much
more careful when they unload fruit to catch any lurking
creatures like a scorpion.that is their responsibility.
