do you feel guilty when you buy yourself things?

I always feel guilty if I buy something for myself! When I do, I usually make sure I buy something for everybody else, too. Obviously, I don't buy anything for myself very often, even if I need it... it's too expensive to buy for everybody!!! I think it is a mom thing.

I never feel guilty when ever I buy my self something, I provide for the family and they have no wants, so where is the harm .

yep I will go in the store and see a blouse or something that i really like and put it in my cart, farther down I will see something I think my hubby would like or needs or an item for one of the grandkids,and there is just enough money for one, so I put mine back and get for the other, and you know this sucks, when does it come our turn to pamper ourselves, we always think of the other person. Is it the mother instint yes I think we get so involved in seeing that everyone else is taken care of we forget about ourselves, I declare tomorrow as buy something for your self day.

Yes i do my partner is always moaning at me for this. He says i should treat myself more. I will see something i want and then spot something the children will like so ending up buying stuff for them instead of myself. I believe it is a mum thng as i know lots of mums who feel the same way.

I agree with you. Most of the time I dont buy for myself and when I do it has to be really necessary

Well,i dont think it is right to feel guilty bcuz mom also need her things too but if every time you buy for yourself and not for them then it is wrong.I think so.

I feel guilty sometimes, too. I don't buy myself much, because guilt stops me. I am frugal by nature and by necessity, which also prevents spending on myself. I usually spend the most on my son, then my husband, then me. I think maybe it's a mom thing. We tend to put our children first, because we love them and want them to have everything.

Nope. Since most of what I buy is usually for one or both children, when I buy something for myself I actually feel pretty good.

I use to buy myself stuff all the time and then I got my pug Billy and now I harldy ever shop for myself. My favorite place to shop is taking Billy to the doggy store and buying him treats. It may not be guilt it could be that you feel happier shopping for your kids or your pet then yourself.

It is not a mommy thing, it is a woman thing. It comes from when you were a girl, and if you bought something, you go the "do you need that? There are starving children in Africa," yet your brother or brothers never got that lecture, because they were boys and boys were allowed to buy toys because they would eventually grow up. It does get worse when you marry and have children, because you are supposed to be buy things that are necessary because your husband worked so hard, It is probably harder for women who work inside the home and were not told that housework and housekeeping is an honored occupation.
