I dont care what a person did, burning them alive is sick and vile...I realize that different countries have different cultures and methods etc etc but when I read or hear about things like this goin on it makes my skin crawl! What blows my mind even more is the fact that this sort of thing (murdering accused witches) goes on a great deal..I know there are parts of Africa where ppl have been stoned to death or murdered in other ways for being accused Witches as recently as in the past 10 yrs....I find it so horrible...BUT I can understand why nobody comes to a persons aid though, most likely its due to fear of being also accused and punished ya know...Crazy mindset..

I had no idea this still went on. I thought the burning of 'witches' was something that no longer took place and only happened centuries ago.

The news report blames it on lack of education. Then there is obviously a real need to ensure that everyone has access to the right sort of education. It may only be a poor rural area but surely there should be no place for this kind of superstition in the twentyfirst century.

I find it hard to believe that in this day and age there are still people who believe that other people can do them harm by "witchcraft."

Having seen a woman who poured gasoline over herself, then lit a match burn to death, I can only imagine the agony the woman in India felt.

Yes, it is true.I'm hearing about them from my childhood days.Though burning kind of thing never happened in our village, other punishments meted out to those few men and women who were branded as practicing witchcraft were of common knowledge to us.Can I say something on them ?

In order to prevent witches/sorcerers from continuing their craft after being caught as practicing, their teeth used be broken with a stone that made them difficult to pronounce certain words.

Secondly,the guilty used to be made to drink water in which some wet animal leather is soaked for days so that every time they are about to pronounce some 'mantras' they would remind themselves of this grueling experience and stop practice.

The humans minds are more prone to negative aspects than positive deeds. Why I'm saying this is that there are many types of bad punishments people can administer on somebody but not a single positive one like educating people on witchcraft as just fake and that people are not guilty.

Hi. I didnt know that this kind of prejudice is still existing in our society today. I mean at first read I thought you were talking about the witches in history. But after reading the link you provided I was blown away! First pirates and now witches! Whats going to be next? Anyways, I do think that this kind of prejudice is a bit far fetched basing on the society of today. I mean come on. There are lots of people who claim that they are witches or fortune tellers. Some might have the gift, some dont, some are just outright scams. But I guess I cant really blame the people who torched the women. Belief is a pretty strong thing. There are also parts in my country where people are serious about monsters, dwarfs, and other supernatural beings and you might be a victim if you joke about it in their place. I guess its just a matter of respect but about the news story. That was something else. I thought people nowadays are civilized enough even when they are superstitious. What bums me about this news article is that the women were just 'accused' of being witches. What if they were innocent? and to be handled and murdered like that. Even if they were witches, they still have human rights.

Hi mooch! Oh my gosh, is that for real? That is horrible! I don't think we don;t have any right to murder anyone or burn anyone alive just because they have different beliefs than ours. This is really cruel! I don't think I will just stand there doing nothing if I was to witness such thing happening. I really hope that this practice of burning suspected witches be put to stop.

No!! I don't agree with it at all. I believe that it is a horrible act. Being labeled a "witch" is such a broad term and what one considers witchcraft another might scoff at..All that superstition is so ridiculous..Our court systems have many flaws here in the US but at least we are supposedly allowed our day in court! Can you imagine living somewhere that someone can come and kill you on a whim..and it is legal...that is so wrong!

wow! That is very sad, I hear stories about witches but I know no one in my area have seen one before. Pretty sad, I hope before they will do that, they have to have a very very clear and strong evidence to show!

This is a horrible tragedy! How can someone do this to another human being. I am sorry but this is the most immortal thing anyone could do to another. This was done by non other than her husband and relatives. Why would he marry her if he had known she was a witch?

But, the final cut was by police when they arrested the sickos for doing such a thing!
