Man to live 300 days on an Island. Would you do the same?  email this discussion to a friend?

I just read an article about a man named Xavier Rosset who is to spend 300 days on an island in the South Pacific. The only thing he will be bringing with him is a Swiss army knife, machete, video camera, & a solar panel for charging the camera. His adventures will be filmed & the footage will then be used for a 32 minute documentary. Now honestly I am a modern day girl who enjoys all the comforts of home. I KNOW for a fact I couldn't do this for any amount of money in the world. It's a sad fact, but true nonetheless. What about you? Would you be able to spend 300 days on an island alone?

No way... I'm not survivor tough. I think if i HAD to do it thats another story, but given the choice? Count me out! I would miss my husband and daughter WAY to much...

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Exactly. Although I like the tv series Lost I wouldn't want to be stranded on an island...wait...well maybe if Swayer were there...okay now I may have to rethink my answer LOL.

HA ha! Well if my cutie pie husband was on the island with me I'd say heck ya!

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Now you may have a point LOL. I think if my husband was with me I might reconsider, but even then I am not sure LOL.

good day. The prize could motivate me a lot so it depends what it is. It's not necessarily means money. I will try and find out as long as there is a way to back out if not then I'll be having second thoughts. It will be a great adventure with all the elements you will be confronted with, its a challenge of a lifetime and on top of being alone in the island and the things unexpected. I wish him luck and God speed.

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Yeah I think he is going to need it too. I admit I would never be brave enough to even try. I like having a roof above my head, a warm bed, & good food to eat. I am spoiled I guess LOL.

I couldn't do it but not because of not being connected to modern day comforts but the being alone part. I am far to social and though I do enjoy being alone for days at a time sometimes I crave socialization and would go crazy without anyone there to visit with. (yes crazier than I already am. lol)

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Yes, I agree thats just another reason why I wouldn't do it. I think evetually you would go crazy & start talking to a basketball just like Tom Hanks did in that movie where he was stranded on that Island(forgot the name of the title).

Sure, I've survived nearly those conditions before. No near-death experiences.
I've spent a winter trying to survive the cold, I've gone over a year without running water...and I've spent a couple months only eating granola bars. I'm sure I could manage, I was a farm girl til last year after all.

Get paid to live like I always wanted to, with nature, without outside distractions? Awesome.

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Then I admire you. I wish I were more like that. I guess I must be more spoiled then I thought. I would like to think that if I had no other choice I would do what I had to to survive, but I just don't know.

It just takes a little know-how that's all, physical fitness is a plus but not necessarily a requirement.
And when in doubt, a little logic goes a long way.

I'm not saying living with nature is -easy- I'm just saying anyone could do it with enough determination. If you ever needed to, you'd probably be better off than me just wanting to. Need has a way of helping people sometimes ^_^

I am sure your right, but I don't think I am ready to test that theory just yet LOL.

I think people will do any thing for money. Besides how do you live on a island for 300 days and then only have a 32 min. documentary that is rediculus if anything but that. You would think they would make the doc. longer

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

Goodness why? I would think it would be boring enough just watching some man grabble with a wild beast so he could kill it for some food LOL. Oh wait, guys like that sort of stuff don't they? LOL.

myLot reputation of 97/100. MrsFairWells (366)   ranked 15 out of 1,741 in news  4 years ago

Nah, I think it would be interesting to see what he does to survive. Although, I guess would could just rent Castaway ;-P

300 days is a little over a year...I could do it but I wouldn't choose to. I think once I got used to it I'd enjoy it. I really liked the movie Castaway and never understood why he bothered to leave the island.

I honestly don't think I could do it. The lonliness would drive me crazy. I could just see me making friends with a basketball as well LOL.

I don't think I could do it. I would probably go insane without any other human contact and a bathroom with a shower, video games, tv, dvd's...I know, I'm awful but I am definitely interesting in seeing his recordings. I hope he shares them with the world...

myLot reputation of 94/100. photographygirl73 (1976)  4 years ago

I am like you. I am a creature of comfort as well as habit LOL. I can't live without certin things such as clean water, a warm bed...good food that I don't have to hunt kill myself...LOL

myLot reputation of 97/100. MrsFairWells (366)   ranked 15 out of 1,741 in news  4 years ago

Exactly!

myLot reputation of 97/100. MrsFairWells (366)   ranked 15 out of 1,741 in news  4 years ago

Of course, if I had to do it I would and could but there's a diffrence between having to do it and choosing to do it and I would never willingly choose to do it ;-P

i don't know if there's a way i could survive 300 days on an island without the comfort of the home i grew up with. i just can't imagine myself away from the people i love for such a very long time, and without any way of communicating. i love to go adventure, but just or a while. i won't go as far as 300 days of my life spent in an island away from home.
