I couldnt sleep so I called my doc...you wont believe what he said...... |
|
Okay I had been having alot of trouble sleeping because I have tons of anxiety, I have had it all my life. Anyways to get to the point I told him this and I was hoping he would prescribe a light sleeping pill or something. NOT!! I still cant believe what he told the nurse to tell me. She said dr said to take bendrel before bed. I said what???? Then I said I can't Im allergic, which I am but I just couldnt believe it. Do you? Have you ever heard of such a thing? Isnt that abusing what the medication is made for? Its made for allergies not sleep. What do you think of this?

ElicBxn (15572) | 2 years ago | I think they were wrong because you can't take the benedryl, but it does help many people to go to sleep and stay alseep without being adictive.

2. lilybug (15381) | 2 years ago | I have heard of doctors telling people to take Benadryl to help them sleep before. My sister takes it sometimes to help her sleep. Benadryl to help youo sleep is not any more harmful than taking sleeping pills.

4. kfrisk (2817) | 2 years ago | Actually it is quite common for them to recommend Benadryl to help you sleep. It makes you drowsy. When I was pregnant, that's what they told me to take when I couldn't sleep. It didn't work for me, actually it made me feel really crappy, but that's what they use for a lot of pregnant women. There is no harm in taking it that way, so as long as it works, there's no harm in taking it. That's why I now take my Zyrtec (I take it for allergies, not sleeping) before I go to bed at night. It works for 24 hours and it makes me tired and wiped out, so it's perfect to take before bed, whether I am taking it for allergies or not.

5. CatsandDogs (5153) | 2 years ago | Yes it is considered abuse of medication. If I were you and the nurse had said that to me, I would've said, "It's obvious he didn't read my medical records for he would've seen I'm alergic to benadryl but since he couldn't take the time to see that then maybe I should find a doctor who doesn't want to be sued over giving one something that may kill them." I bet you anything just about that the nurse would've hurried off the phone and told the doctor what was said and made quick adjustments to his way of practicing medicine. Geeze. What an @$$. Another thing about the medical profession. A person isn't a person anymore. They're all a dollar sign and that's it. The doctors could care less about your needs or feelings. They just want what they can get out of a person in the way of money and that's it. I've seen it over and over and over again and it's really sickening. What ever happened to bedside manners? Gone to the way side a long time ago. Such a darned shame, isn't it?

7. novataylor (2144) | 2 years ago | Benadryl is diphenhydramine. Diphenhydramine is the first ingredient on the boxes of Sominex, Nytol, or any over the counter sleep aid. It's cheaper to just buy the store brand of Benadryl though. It's been prescribed for ages for sleep. Didn't you notice that it made you sleepy when you took it? I don't know why you can't make the connection between the two. Look it up.

8. mrdos910 (360) | 2 years ago | If you pick up a box of any over the counter sleep aid at the store and a box of Benydryl if you look at the active ingredient, both contain diphenhydramine HCL in them. That is what makes you sleepy and control allergies. Except the Benydryl is cheaper I believe
