Hi,
Digital SLR camera is much more powerful than normal digital camera.

SLR:
High shutter speed so you can take photos at faster speed. The SLR is manual lens so that you can adjust the focus manually and get the sharpest image. You can change the lens of SLR such as macro lens, long range lens and so on. Color of the photos taken are much better if compared to photos taken by normal digital camera. The SLR can capture wider angle photos if you use the correct lens. You can add external flash to SLR camera to enhance the lighting.

Normal digital camera:
You can only take photos and cannot make changes to the lens. The focus is automatic called autofocus. Normally, taking photos using normal digital camera will be blurry because the shutter speed is slower.

SLR is more powerful because you can change a lot of features and function to the SLR camera but it is more expensive. You can also use different filters to SLR cameras and capture special effect photos. thumbup

Actually the term slr, as I posted one below you, stand for "Single Lens Reflex"... Although it's more common to have interchangerable lens for SLR cameras, you can have a SLR camera with fixed lens, not being able to change out the lens to different size & type... And although rare, you can have non-SLR, or cameras with seperate "viewfinders" that have interchangerable lenses... Shutter speed in itself has nothing to do with the lens, in a sence that the shutter within the lens itself is controled by the mechanical "arms" or little clips where the lens connects to the body... Faster those "arms" move, faster shutter in the lens itself opens & closes... Fstop, or Appature, is the size of the opening of THAT shutter... Depending on how far those "arm" moves, that's how big or small those shutters will open... Usually the bigger the apature, less the "field of focus" & conversly, smaller the lens opening, apature, longer or the greater the "field of focus"... "field of focus" refers to the amount of the feet in front & behind the center of the object you focus on... If you want the background to be blurry, constructions & etc, you can make your subject in focus but make the background blurry... But if you wanna take a picture of someone in front of a beautiful back ground, you can make the apature small so that the entire background including your subject will be in perfect focus...

Actual term, "SLR" stands for "Single Lenz Reflex"... All it means, or intended to mean, is that what when you look through the view finder, is actually the image you see comming "Through" the lens... There're 2 mirrors inside the camera, one on the back or behind the lens, then one up by the top of the camera inside the "view finder"... You're actually looking at the 2nd mirror... If you look at the disposable cameras, you'll find that there's a seperate "view finder" aside from, or not connected to the lens, usually located top left corner when you're looking at the back of the camera... Advantage is, or should be, with single lens reflex cameras, SLR cameras, the image you see through the view finder is the image that will apear in your film... Sometimes with the seperate view finder, what you thought were gonna be in the center of the picture was slightly off center on a final print? That's because view finder & the lens wasn't alighened the same or properly... Now in the age of digital cameras, I guess it carries a slightly different result or slightly different meaning...
