Do u feel bad when your children retort back at you?

my daughter is 11,sometimes she says a few words in retort,but i don't think that she don't respect me,we usually discusse some questions,in that case,i don't feel sad,because we are equal.what do think that?

I think you might be missing the point here - let me explain what i mean.

My nieces talk back to me too, they give me so much attitude & smart mouths but i have put it down to the fact that i'm NOT their mother so they see it more as someone with less authority is trying to tell them what to do.

I think it's different, even though they talk back, kids will generally do it less to a 'parent'. Being only an Auntie, they may not believe they have to listen to you since you're not an immediate authority figure - does that make sense?

I know my nieces listen to their parents on occasions but they never listen to me - since i'm only the Auntie so maybe that's the only reason it has happened to you.

I think 12 is also one of those ages where kids like to push the boundaries & see what they can get away with, especially with people that aren't their parents.

It all depends in the way they retort back to you. Sometimes we need to allow our children to speak their minds and be able to express themselves, but always in a positive ways that do not offend others. This was something I had to teach my children who are now teenagers to respect other people's feelings and take into consideration how they may make someone else feel if they don't express themselves in a positive matter. I helped them realize how powerful words are and how damaging words can be if not used appropriately. It is a hard thing to teach a child especially when they are young, but it is something we must get them to learn and understand for their own good. Never regret or feel bad about your disciple to your children when you are trying to teach them right from wrong. In the end they will appreciate you for it and you will be glad you did=)

i dont have kids yet, but if i have i would like for them to not just to take everything i say but also explain themselves to me, i will help me have a better look of the kind of personality that they have i think, as long as they do it in a respectful manner, ill encourage them to answer back
