Do you say something if you see someone harshly disciplining their kids? email this discussion to a friend?

I just wondered if you ever say anything to the parents that spank, smack, yell and just otherwise be downright awful to their kids right there in front of you.

I do depending on the degree. I am not above a little yelling myself, but the rest is uncalled for. Do I never spank my child, no. I do administer a swat to get his attention, but I do not go to the extent that I have seen some parents.

What is your opinion on this? Is this a case of its none of your business or do you interfere?

I agree with you. I do not spank my child, although she is told it's a spanking. She gets her butt swatted when she's pretending she can't hear me or is screaming so loud that there's no yelling over her. I think it would depend on the situation whether I would interfere with another parent or not though. If they are hurting the child or it's obvious that the child is treated badly a lot, then I would either tell them to knock it off or I'd just call the cops. Then there'd be a record that the parent has abused the child before, and child protective services would be notified. Everyone flies off the handle sometimes, and that's okay, but you should never hurt your children.

I have had a little of both. I saw a parent in Walmart roughing his kid up and talking downright mean to the poor little guy. He couldn't have been more than 3 or 4!

Then there is the guy I watched his kids. OH MAN! That one still burns my butt. I heard him say on more than one occasion that he was gonna beat his son. One time the kid came with a black eye and I wondered. I didn't say anything that time because I know that energetic kids like that tend to get into all sorts of scrapes, even in the most inconvienent places. Still, I wonder...

tanniebabe hi It depends on just what the parent is doing to
his child,if it is going way beyond any logical discipline I
will say do that again and I am calling Childrens protective
services.for example a mom lost her cool completely at a little '
toddler, she smacked him so hard he fell down, then every time
he tried to get up she kicked him. I had had enough,I yelled at her and she told me to mind the bad word bad word own business'
so I phoned the police, who came at once, they saw her kick this little boy and arrested her on the spot. I left, sick at heart, she must have weighted two seventy five or more, the little kid was only about two,my God what was in her mind?
