Need some baby gift advice |
| |
| My friend just had a baby, and she's very picky about things she uses and buys for her baby. (I say picky, which is nice talk for insanely obsessive.) She registered for her baby at a very exclusive and expensive baby boutique that only carries all natural and organic baby stuff. I was DREADING shopping there, but when I stopped by, it was closed for the day. So I went over to the Whole Foods and picked her up a package of Seventh Generation diapers, some organic baby wash, and an organic cotton baby blanket. Now, I'm thinking I should take them back and get what she registed for. She's going to try cloth diapers, which I admire her for, and I feel as though my disposable diapers will offend her. (She'll see it as a comment on her commitment to use the cloth.) I would just buy her cloth diapers, but she's using this system that is only sold online and at these specialty boutiques. If she doesn't like anything, she will return it. But that would hurt my feelings a little bit, because I took the time and effort to buy nice gifts for her baby. I know she wants things just so, and I don't knwo what to do. The last thing I want is to try and catch this stupid boutique open. The owner is sweet, and environmentally aware, but flighty. What do I do? | | Crap! I forgot a card! | | | | |

| | I would give her what you bought. It's sounds like you made some good selections. If I were her I would be happy! Perhaps you could find a basket and arrange all the baby things in that and put a ribbon and a little rattle or toy in the bow top if it has a handle. Just stuff the basket with crumpled computer paper or some other heavyweight paper and put some pastel tissue on top ... then put your gifts on top. Don't wrap the gifts. You could make a cute little baby card on the computer. Maybe just get some baby powder, baby oil, and baby wipes and you'll have a cute little baby basket! | | | | | | |

| | Maybe return the diapers and keep the baby wash and blanket for the gift? If you don't feel this is enough put a little money in the card. I have a friend that is that way. When she had her son instead of a gift for him, I took food over to the house when she got out of the hospital. That way she didn't have to worry about meals. I am not sure that this is something that she would like or that you want to do, but that's an option. But I guess you said she just had her baby so she is probably home already, Huh? Brain fart, sorry. Anyway I would go with the first thing I said. Either that or take all of it back and put that money in a card so she can buy what she wants. | | | | | | |

| | Well you could tell here the diapers are for when they go out. I want to try cloth too (if I ever get the chance) but when I go out I realize that cloth would be a big hassle - not to mention smelly. Otherwise if you do want to take them back I think - if you can - giving her a gift card would be a good option since she's uber picky. Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | I would probably take the items back to the original shop you bought them and open up a savings account for the baby for her instead of give her some money towards her own choice of products that way she won't take back and offend you and you won't offend her by buying disposables when she wants to use cloth. | | B, I think I would go ahead and give her the diapers. Even if she uses cloth its always good to have disposable on hand in case of an emergency or if she takes the baby out. Tell her that. I used cloth diapers with my oldest son and still kept disposable on hand when we went visiting. It is so much easier to deal with them when you are out. | | | | | | |

| | I would give her everything but the cloth diapers. You can pick up a nice pack of cloth diapers just about anywhere (I have seen them in walmart) and give those instead. | | | | | | |

| | I think you should give her what you bought. It is a good gift and it is coming from your heart. Don't worry about her returning the gift, you already try the best thing you can do. What is important in giving a gift is the intention. You have the good intention already so don't worry about the gift being return. From the list you mentioned, you have all the necessaries a baby need so I don't think she will return it because she will need it after all. | | | | | | |

| | OMG... some peoples don't even had real diapers and such things when they had kids, and those babies growed quite healthy. For me this is silly to be so obsessed about this kind of stuff. Diaper is a diaper, same for all the other products. I think you have done a good thing buying normal things for the kid instead for this super-expensive-but-nothing-more-then-usual things. | | | | | | |
