Was Jesus really crucified?  email this discussion to a friend?

Read the gospel of Matthew, Chapter 26 (Verses 63 and 64).
But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the son of God.” Jesus said “ You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the son of man seated at right hand of power , and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Also read the gospel of Mark Chapter 14 ( Verses 61 and 62)
But he was silent and made no answer. The high priest asked him “ Are you the Christ, son of the Blessed?” Jesus said “ I am; and you will see the son of man seated at right hand of power , and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Note the difference:
In Matthew , Jesus says “ You have said so.”
In Mark , Jesus says “ I am”

Again, in Luke, Chapter 22 ( Verses 67 to 69)
They said “ If you are the Christ , tell us” But Jesus said “ If I tell you, you will not believe. And if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

This answer is far different from the answers in Matthew and Mark.

Again, in John, Chapter 18 ( Verses 19 to 21)
The high priest questioned Jesus . Jesus answered him, “ I have spoken openly to the world; I have always taught in synagogues and in temple, where all Jews come together . I have said nothing secretly. Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me, what I said to them ; they know what I said.”

It has to be noted that all these four passages are contradictory to each other. Jesus replies differently in all four gospels.
Therefore, how can we believe that Jesus was crucified ?
How can we believe what is given in the gospels, when they contradict each other?

its not that He answered contradictory of one another. He replied in a different phrase in the same thought of sitting in the right hand.

He is crucified, I can't tell the exact verse but it goes like the soldiers nailed Him and mock Him while all His followers weep.

'You have said so' and 'I am" are contradictory.
If I ask you 'Are you an American?' and you say 'You have said so' and someone else asks the same question and you reply 'I am' . then what do you mean?

But what Jesus means is not the question.
The point is that all the four gospel accounts of the Jesus trial should have been same. But they are not. The same Jesus ansers differently in the four gospels.
The question is the same in the 4 gospels " Are you the Christ, the son of the living God?"
But answer of Christ is 4 different answers.

To answer this question a lot of research is needed. As it is to be done by authorised persons, we will live with the word. Some people feel sad, They donot want Jesus to die. But he had a purpose. If you find something difficult to beleive leave it aside.

Yes, there is a difference in the passages you sight. A difference of phrase but not a contradictory difference in content.

Moreover, all 4 gospels confirm that Jesus was crucified.

The historical evidence for the existence and crucification of Jesus is at least as good as that for Alexandra the Great.

'You have said so' and
'I am' are definitely contradictory.
Also note the difference of answers in Luke and John.
Was he really crucified or not is not the important question.
Which gospel are we truly supposed to believe/ is the truth - is the question.

Don't beat your head too hard here, the truth doesn't matter. Just believe

Like the others who give their comments, I also believe that there is no contradictions in these passages rather it gives affirmation to one gospel over another. The four gospel were delivered and written by four different authors at different time and place. These authors does not agree among themselves that these and that would be the words be used. But rather, they were led by the Holy Spirit to deliver the same message that JESUS live, died and rosed again.

In Matthews account : Jesus said : You have said so.. (Greek word su eipas) and Mark's "I am" (ego eimi)both meant the same thing, choosing / using different words used by the style of writing of each author.

Same thing with Luke and John's. The four gospel agree the same thing, Jesus boldly opened His mouth. In these passages the Lord only breaks the silence to affirm his Divinity under oath. The Savior doesn't deny that He is indeed the Messiah. He could deny it to save his life, yet this claim were being confirmed in four gospel accounts to show that Jesus is truly the son of God.

it is the word of God, nobody else can change it, and you will kindly read the following verse from Deutronomy 29:29
"The secret things belongs to the Lord our God,but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all words of this Law".Prayerfully you have to ask the Lord which you do not understand which others cannot convincingly make you understand. You cannot approach Word of God as any other book.To understand it is very difficult, but Lord will help you.all the best.w00t

myLot reputation of 63/100. kangallo (1587)  4 years ago

There is no proof that Bible is the word of God. The secret things belong to the Lord? And those things revealed to us are for us? What things? Contradictions?
Instead of witing a book, Can't this God appear in front of each of us and reveal his secrets, whatever they are?
Prayerfully, I need not ask the Lord. I have full faith in my intelligence and reasoning power. I have confidence in my ability in my understanding or not understanding something.
And let me tell you, I am going to burn the copy of my Bible. If it is really the word of God, then it should not get burnt. If itgets burnt, then it is clear that it is not th word of God.
Let me see whether this God will come and save his so-calles word.

Certain things are in the world for example electricity, which you cannot see but you can use and results you can see easily. So somebody say since electricity invisible, so there is no electricity, people will call you mad.thumbdown

myLot reputation of 63/100. kangallo (1587)  4 years ago

You cannot compare electricity and Bible.
Of course, electricity is invisible. Still, since you use and feel it.
The Bible (So-called word of God) is visible. Its visibility itself is proof that it is not from God.
Since this book( Bible) , one can read it page to page and understand that it is written by human beings.
One more thing : Before reading the Bible, I used to believe that it is word of God. But then prayerfully, I started reading it page by page.
Then after reading it, I lost my prayerfulness. Thus I understood that it is not word of God.

Yes I do believe that Jesus was crusified to save us from sins.Bcoz if He was not crusified we are living in sins for the rest of our life.If you believe in GOD you don't be confused of what He said in the bible in different ways.So if God tell you that He is crusified would you believe it or no?Whatver you said God answered you the same..."if you said so..."

The gospels all tell the story from the perspective of a different writer. They all tell that he was crucified they just word it differently. Jesus most definitely was crucified on the cross and died for our sins dear friend!!
