Does your dog like to take a bath? |
|
My pet dog Muffin doesn't seems to like it. He usually does accompany me when I go down the groundfloor, but when I started bathing him there he stay on the top floor and watched me go down. If he hear I am opening the gate at the back, then he go down and I run out. If he doesn't hear it open, he just stay upstair and watched me. If I go up to try and pick him he just run and avoid me. He seems to notice I am going to give him a bath. So now I have to pick him up before I go down and bath him. I usually just turned on the faucet, help him in between my leg, wash and soap him. I am only using a detergent soap for him, and I don't know if that's what he don't like, or the cold water from the faucet. Maybe I shoulh heat some water for bathing him? After the bath he fell lively again and run around the house tp get dry. I am not toweling, I just let him shake the water on his fur. I usually give him a bath every two weeks. How about you guys, do you bath your dog regularly? What kind of soap do you used. How about the water, do you warm it up? Do you towel the dog after the bath? Do you think bathing the dog is beneficial to it or us human owner? Appreciate your thoughts on this.

1. danishcanadian (14543) | 4 months ago | I've never had a dog that actually liked to take a BATH. I did have one who liked to swim, though. When we'd go out in the boat, if we did not take her with us, she'd jump in the water and swim after us.

robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | Dogs are good swimmer so I am sure they are not afraid of the water. Maybe I should take my dog out near a lake or the beach to see how he like. Good for your dog she can always go with you for a swim.

2. megumiart (2922) | 4 months ago | My Dog HATES getting a bath. He hates getting wetand rubbed down, i think it makes him feel humiliated. xD Whenever I try to get him in the bath tub, he protests with all his might by running away, and pulling me if I have a hold on him or going under a desk or something. These days we usually just take him to a groomer since it takes so much time and energy to do it at home. xD

robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | That's new, dogs feelign humiliated. I agree also they have feeling and it might be true that your dog feel humiliated everytime you give him a bath. Grooming might be better that getting him a bath, it is basically the same cleaning but without using a water.

3. ZephyrSun (1550) | 4 months ago | Well I have a lab and their fur is suppose to repel water. So bathing him is like giving a duck a bath. I really have to soak him to get all of his fur wet. I use a shampoo for dogs that is suppose to make him smell better but I don't think that it does, he always stinks. I give him a bath about every week or two depending upon how ready for battle I am. He really hates a bath, but has no problem running through mud puddles or any area of water (this makes me mad). I give him a cool bath since he has so much fur and is always hot. I try to towel dry him as best I can because he did run out of the bathroom once and fell down the first flight of our stairs. I think the bath is only for us humans I honestly don't think he cares if he stinks lol.

robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | Yeah, it will took some time for their fur to get soak, mostly the part of the neck and the buttock where my dog fur is thick. I agree with you that bath is for human purposes. The dog stinks if don't bath him so I guess we will have to continue battling with our dog.

5. angel_of_charm (2002) | 4 months ago | your dog doesn't seem to like bathing really..mine doesn't like it either..he always hide whenever he notice i was about to give him a bath..he is somehow very tricky at times..he plays asleep sometimes..and sometimes he hide on the shoe closet..i always carry him when i give him a bath..i towel him and get him dry but i let him shake it off first before i do..i used his dog soap and the shampoo to make his fur shinny..sometimes i dry him with a blow dry and he likes it then run around..

robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | Yap, it's a hard work. I think giving him a blow dry and toweling him off is a good idea. This way he don't get dirty after taking a bath. My dog run around shaking off the water and even lie on the concrete ground which make him dirty again. So I think a blow dry is ok if I can get hold of him again.

6. thaMARKER (550) | 4 months ago | We had two dogs before. Both didn't like bath time. They always run around the house, under the table, hide behind the sofa if they can sense that they will be taking their bath. hahaha.. I always laugh at them because they're like kids that you have to force to go to the bath room. They don't like their face to be wet. Maybe they feel like drowning or something..

| 7. RamblinRose7 (9) | 4 months ago | This is a response for Robert and anyone else, use baby shampoo on thier faces. It says tearless, you have to treat them just like a child, because in a sense thats what they are, we provide for them, and they rely on us to do just that. So when you give a "BATH THINK", is this what I would like? Warm water is a definate yes, a blow dryer is very helpful in getting his body tempature back to normal. A towel gets the excess water off. and it gives him something to rub on when you blow dry him. If he is a small dog a more gentle treatment and words you use to encourage him that he will be okay and a little praise for being good goes a long way. That should change the bath sisuation alot. Then give him a treat for doing a good job and he will think baths are oaky especially the treat. Make it fun for him and he will enjoy it. Basically you need to remove the fear and I'd say the cold water or soap in his eyes would be a big fear that you need to help him with.

|
robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | Good advise RamblinRose. I'll take note of it next time I have my dog take a bath. I also think the cold water is what make him fear to take a bath.

8. blackmantra_x (2222) | 4 months ago | good day. My dog half heartedly love bathing. She hates getting wet but when I started massaging her body with soap she begins to love it. Maybe getting wet isn't their idea of fun but massaging I guess they'll always love it.

10. arrangement (273) | 4 months ago | hey robert how are you. firstly i want to tell you that all dogs with will to take bath still hate it because of their problem. it is not like that they dont want to take bath. because their skin has pores and if water reaches them they get close. upon closing pores they have breathing problems. so they hate to bath. but dogs are good swimmers because they love to swim. in swimming their whole body does not gets in water. so they are not afraid
| |
| |
|
|
robert19ph (1483) | 4 months ago | I don't know that. Good point. It is better then not to entirely soak the dog fur. Maybe just wiping their fur with warm water will keep it clean and you don't need to have their skin get wet.
