Salted apples????? |
|
hi my friends in Mylot,
In some discussions about food I read that many of our friends in the US sprinkle a little salt on apples when eating. I never heard of this before. So please tell me what salting an apple is good for, mainly as we are recommended to use fewer salt to improve our eating habits. Thanks a lot. Have a wonderful day.

1. Valenas (1026) | 2 years ago | As far as I know, it is not good for anything except changing the taste. It's not bad, just do not over-salt it. o:

3. youdontsay (2035) | 2 years ago | It is only a matter of taste. i don't salt apples. but I would salt melon if it wasn't very ripe and sweet. I limit my salt intake and use a salt substitute but use that only seldom.

letsee77 (154) | 5 months ago | My aunt salts her apples and her watermelon, she like the way it tastes this way. I don't but salt on any fruit that I eat, but the tomato is a fruit so I guess I do, because I love garden fresh tomato with a light sprinkle of salt. It's about the only thing I'll use the salt shaker for as I don't add extra salt to foods.

4. shymurl (2091) | 2 years ago | I salt my apples sometimes. But its just for a different taste. I have heard of some people salting oranges, bananas, and peaches. I haven't tried that and don't think i'm going to.

AmbiePam (15457) | 2 years ago | Ugh! I can't imagine salting oranges, bananas, or peaches. But I guess different cultures have different preferences.

5. cream97 (9187) | 2 years ago | Well I do put salt on most of my fruits. But it will only be Lite Salt.. And when I do put salt on it, it will only be in moderation. There are times that I will not use salt. It does taste good. It brings out the taste better, that is just in my opinion.

6. kenzie45230 (2463) | 2 years ago | Salting apples just gives it a different flavor, much like putting cheese on an apple pie gives it a different flavor. My grandmother used to tell us that you salt a juicy, sweet apple, but never a tart one. I guess that makes sense.

|
book1962 (14769) | 2 years ago | hi kenzie I never thought it would also depend on the taste of the apple. I tried it with golden Delicious apples and also with Braeburn and it tasted amazingly good.

7. slyvixen42 (712) | 2 years ago | I've never heard of that. It sounds like it'd be weird. I guess it might be ok, though. I know some people eat apple chips which have salt on them. I've tried them and I liked them. From my experience peole in the US eat things because they taste good, not becasue it's good for them.

8. AmbiePam (15457) | 2 years ago | Yes, this is very common here. My mom likes to do that, and I guess I used to do that when I was a child, but not anymore. We'd cut them in slices and then put less than a pinch of salt on them. For someone who is healthy this is not a big deal. The amount of salt put on the apple is very very small.

book1962 (14769) | 2 years ago | hi Ambie I have done that too and surprisingly enough I liked the taste of salted apple.

10. Desierra1004 (432) | 2 years ago | Hie Book1962, salted apples do taste great and it's good for a change. Over here we sprinkle salt ( small amount ) to delay the slices of apples ( flesh ) from turning to brownish and ended up not that appetizing later. But some like to do that because it tasted better. Now mostly people are more health conscious so instead of using salt they use lemon/lime juice instead to delay the process. Whether it;s salt or lemon juice, it equally taste wonderful.

book1962 (14769) | 2 years ago | thanks Desierra for that info, I didnt know the salt also keeps the apple from turning brown. Have a wonderful day.

Desierra1004 (432) | 2 years ago | You are welcome. That's the goodness of apples, no matter how we eat it, it always taste great.
